I've been here for 3 years and recently went to an agent for my one-year ER extension and they insisted on taking a photo of me, the first time for that. Has anyone else experienced that? PS, I'm a very paranoid person.

All agents get a list of suspicious immigrants and they must get a picture of these people for the face recognition software updates, like different hair styles or beard growth etc, for monitoring. Once you look for these cameras you will start to notice they are everywhere.

Everyone has done their best to wind you up, and it is too late for me to join in. I should of got up earlier.

I applied for a visa renewal this week and my agent also asked me for a passport type photo. Just my face on a white background.

Why they want it is unknown - I didn't ask. I didn't worry about it as they know where I live, have a copy of my passport and will only allow me to leave the country if they see fit. I can't see how a photo makes my situation any more precarious.

Providing a photo or 2 for visa extension/renewal has been SOP for as long as I've been in Cambodia.

Yes this is standard now, it's one of those requirements that has always been around but never enforced if applying via a visa agent. Since April 1st 2021 the DoI have directed that applicants applying via a visa agency personally complete the Extension of Stay application form (although many agents are still doing this on applicants behalfs) and provide 1x passport pic.
