3 Siblings Drown, Playing at Grandpa's
Cambodia News (Ratanakiri Province): On July 16, 2021, at 7:30 am in Moy village, Nhang commune, Andong Meas district, 3 young siblings, a 7-year-old boy, a 4-year-old boy, and a 2-year-old girl, died from drowning in a dyke.
According to the victims' parents, the two brothers asked for permission to visit his grandfather and once they arrived at grandfather's house, they asked him to play by the bridge with their little sister.
After missing them for a long period of time, the grandfather went to look for them until he found the victims' shoes near the bridge, and then the bodies were later found with the help of the neighbors.
After the autopsy on the victims' bodies, the police determined that the three children died from drowning and the bodies were given back to the family for the funeral. RIP

RIP, but which grandfather lets his three little grandchildren play by the river unsupervised? Regrettably, this happens over and over again.
Re: 3 Siblings Drown, Playing at Grandpa's
An inordinate number of Khmer grandparents, as is evident from the several recent accounts.

Indeed. Parents, too. There is a rather laissez-faire attitude to many things which would otherwise be alarming risks to us. It’s not that Asia is especially bad- the ‘70s in the UK saw a lot of information being broadcast on TV to get people to wake up to the risks*, but there is a certain behind-the-times element across many things. We see so many reports like this, kids on motor getting wiped out, and too many other instances of utter carelessness.
It’s saddening to see yet another report like this.
(But by all means let’s make sure nobody is playing cards!)
*in hindsight, having Rolf Harris front some of these hasn’t been good.

Grandfather is a moron as are the rest of the family.
Re: 3 Siblings Drown, Playing at Grandpa's
Hate to say it but these Khmer parents usually part with their children and leave them at grandparents house and they end up "dying" by drowning or some other bullshit way. These kids don't deserve this shit.
Re: 3 Siblings Drown, Playing at Grandpa's
To all those keyboard warrior judges here, in Ratanakiri it has been raining for days so maybe these kids were caught by a flood.
It doesn't justify grandfather's ignorance but shit happens in the boonies, you know. Unless you're on your toes all the time.

Classic, make excuses. If it's been raining so much, all the more reason to keep an eye on them!
Aren't elderly people supposed to be wiser? What ever happened to just saying "No"?
Can't explain to the kids in a teachable manner ( ), "You know, it's extra dangerous with the heavy rains we've been having, and I'm not really going to watch what you do anyways, so it's best that you stay inside today."
FCS, Keep the kids inside, give them a few smartphones to play YouTube or Facebook with, like everyone else!

No excuses, but nobody really knows what happened, or knows the local situation. Guess that's what wanted to say.
Re: 3 Siblings Drown, Playing at Grandpa's
Wrong again. We DO know what happened. The <expletive deleted> grandfather was derelict in his duty because the <expletive deleted>: 1) felt it was too much work to teach the children why it wasn't a good idea, 2) too <expletive deleted> lazy to go with them to watch for their safety (to whom he'd been entrusted), 3) <expletive deleted> to outwit a 7 year-old and 4-year boy, AND 4) too afraid to say "No" and teach discipline.Kammekor wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 8:04 amNo excuses, but nobody really knows what happened, or knows the local situation. This <expletive deleted>, almost as much as CEO posters who go out of their way to support these <expletive deleted> who have no respect for life other than their individual self.
Those 3 kids ain't coming back, regardless of the <expletive deleted> they believe.
