There is always Phimai
The Phimai Historical Park (Thai: ปราสาทหินพิมาย), (Khmer: ប្រាសាទពិមាយ) is one of the largest Hindu Khmer temples in Thailand. It is located in the town of Phimai, Nakhon Ratchasima province. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in Nakhon Ratchasima province.
Phimai had previously been an important town at the time of the Khmer Empire. The temple Prasat Hin Phimai, located in the center of the town, was one of the major Khmer temples in ancient Thailand, connected with Angkor by an ancient Khmer Highway, and oriented to face Angkor as its cardinal direction. The site is now protected as the Phimai Historical Park.

In February 2021, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia jointly inspected Angkor Wat Thai Hom Mali Jasmine Rice foreign rice products for sale online, and after careful research by the two ministries, in close cooperation with the Thai side, found that the owner of the rice was an Indian company, Voyage India, located in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

‘Phnom Penh’ noodles under scrutiny
Nov Sivutha | Publication date 22 August 2021 | 20:44 ICT
Two Cambodian ministries are investigating the Nam Vang Noodle brand which uses a picture of Cambodia’s iconic temple Angkor Wat on its product packaging and has been seen in stores in the US.
The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts told The Post on August 22 that the noodle company was using the name of Phnom Penh (Nam Vang in Vietnamese) and the image of Angkor Wat on its products without permission. It is working with the Ministry of Commerce to investigate the matter and possibly seek legal remedies.
Culture ministry spokesman Long Ponnasirivath said the APSARA National Authority (ANA), a body tasked with managing the Angkor Archaeological Park, had never heard of this brand of noodles until recently.
According to Ponnasirivath, if the commerce ministry determines that there is real actionable fraud taking place, the ministry will file complaints with international institutions related to trade and the counterfeiting of products and use of country identity on product labels.
He said under the Paris Convention, member states are obligated to provide protections against unfair competition.
He said, however, that if there is a case of fraudulently using the national identity of Cambodia without permission, the commerce ministry would take legal action.

Re: Upset on Social Media Over Alleged Angkor Wat Copy in Thailand
Cambodia News: On August 26, 2021, the Cambodian Embassy in the United States officially condemned the imported packaged food company that has been producing and marketing the packaged noodles with unauthorized trademarks (Phnom Penh Noodle) and a national Cambodian symbol (Angkor Wat) which is an international crime and identity fraud.
The products have been being sold around the Asian markets in the eastern coastal states of the USA. This market scheme also tricked customers into buying products that they would believe it is from a legitimate origin. The embassy has prepared formal letters to the companies and corporates that permitted the products of the unauthorized trademark to be sold across the United States.
In the meantime, the embassy also publically alerted the Cambodian Americans and the Cambodian students in the US to report any products that resemble the same or similar trademark as the products shown to the Cambodian Embassy in order to stop crime and identity fraud against Cambodia.

‘Phnom Penh Noodle’ US distributor calls it quits
May Kunmakara | Publication date 01 September 2021 | 20:35 ICT
A US distributor has agreed to stop selling “Nam Vang Noodle” products, which infringe on Cambodian intellectual property rights, and recall merchandise already on shelves across the country, Ministry of Commerce spokesman Seang Thay told The Post citing the Kingdom’s embassy in Washington.
The “Nam Vang Noodle” brand has landed in hot water with Cambodian authorities for using the image of Angkor Wat temple and “Phnom Penh” name on its products without authorisation from the government.
On August 26, the embassy wrote in a letter that it had learned of the distribution of the dried noodles at Asian supermarkets across the US East Coast, which bear an illustration of the iconic “Angkor Wat” temple and the names “Phnom Penh Rice Stick” and “Hu Tieu Dai Nam Vang”.
“Nam Vang” is the Vietnamese appellation of the Cambodian capital and “hu tieu” is the Vietnamese equivalent of “kuyteav” in the Kingdom, vermicelli-like noodles made from long-grain rice flour.
“Phnom Penh Kuyteav”, often referred to as “Phnom Penh Noodle”, was registered as a “collective brand” in 2019.
The embassy ruled out that these products had originated from the Kingdom, and underscored that the Cambodian authorities had not granted permission to use the image or name.
It did not immediately indicate a perceived country of origin of the products. But of note, the labelling on the packaging contains Chinese, English and Vietnamese – the language of the brand name.
The act constitutes a violation of Cambodian law and international treaties and agreements on trademarks, and misleads consumers into believing that the products originate from the Kingdom, the embassy stressed.
Thay told The Post that the commerce ministry, through the embassy and in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, had assigned overseas trade representatives to look into the source of the products.
“Our ambassador also issued a letter to the seller to stop immediately,” he said.
“The company then accepted our request to stop sales, and recall the goods with our Cambodian logos, which commonly have images of Angkor Wat or the Cambodian flag, or Khmer characters adorned on them.

Controversy expected as replica of world renown Angkor Wat built in Da Nang’s theme park
An Angkor Wat “replica” in the center of Da Nang, Vietnam, is trying to attract International tourists to visit Vietnam without having to “cross the border” to visit the real Angkor Wat in Cambodia because they built a copy the architectural model of Angkor Wat of Cambodia as the original version, which is the most unique historical-cultural archeology.
On January 29, 2022, a Facebook account called Phnom Rithi posted a video of Vietnamese television and wrote “In the future, it will be easier for the Khmer Krom to not spend time crossing the country to visit Angkor Wat in Siem Reap because the Vietnamese have the the right to build the Khmer temple of Angkor in the theme park in Da Nang province.
The same Facebook account states that Vietnam has already asked for permission from the Ministry to help spread the culture and complete the construction and was reportedly already Inaugurated for tourists.
In a Vietnamese TV video, the male host said, “Do you know what the temple is behind me?” That is the temple of Angkor Wat copied from Cambodia, but this temple is not located in Cambodia, it is located in Da Nang .
The host then took a tour of the replica and said that if visitors had actually visited Angkor Wat in Cambodia must have known about this construction well. The host also recommended to visit the replica temple in Da Nang.

Government to discuss Khmer temple replica with Vietnam
The government will discuss the legality and architectural accuracy of the replica of a Khmer ancient temple in Vietnam with their authorities.
Apsara Authority spokesman Long Kosal said yesterday that it has concluded its evaluation on the replica of Khmer ancient temple in Danang city in Vietnam.
“There is no question about whether the temple is a replica of Khmer temples or not. It is a temple replica. However, Apsara Authority cannot make any judgement yet,” said Kosal. “We sent our report to them to make an official judgement about the temple replica.”
Culture Ministry spokesman Long Ponnasirivath said that it will work with the Foreign Affairs Ministry to arrange a discussion with Vietnam’s authorities on the international copyright law and the accuracy of the replica temple.
“We know that the temple in question was built without authorisation from the Cambodian authorities but we are thinking whether or not the temple replica could encourage tourists to come to visit the real temples in Cambodia,” said Ponnasirivath.
He explained that the temple replica could be considered as a quote from an author. If people who quote that author also mention the source and the name of the author, it will only be legal to do so with the consent from the author.
“Another issue is that the architecture of the temple replica must be accurate following the exact original Khmer architecture,” added Ponnasirivath.
He also said he is considering that international tourists will not spend thousands of dollars just to come to visit the replica, however, if they go to Vietnam and see the replica, the tourists would be inspired to extend their trip to Cambodia to see the genuine temples.
According to Ponnasirivath, replicas of Khmer ancient temple also exist in other countries such as on the Jungle Cruise ride at Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom in the US. The temple replicas encourage many Americans to come to see the real Khmer temples in Cambodia.
