Kampot Noticeboard

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Kampot Noticeboard

Post by rubberbaron »

I am not much of a poster, not here, not on FB. Occasionally, though, I would like to express a thought. I live in Kep so the Noticeboard Kampot is the one for this area.

I posted this text:

Kampot is registering relatively high numbers of new Covid cases on a daily basis now, e. g. yesterday 92, the day before 70. I find it all the more surprising to see so many Westerners without masks out and about. Do they think they can't be infected, or what's going on in their minds? Yes, I can't remember that there were any Westerners' infections but eventually it will spread, I believe.

This post was removed by the admin or moderator without further explanation. This is a really weird I think. What's wrong with these guys. Hey, Angus, if you are a member of this board. Care to explain to a broader audience?

They have been censoring any negative information for many years.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Maybe the foreigners you see without masks have already been vaccinated or had the virus?

No vaccinations in Kep or Kampot yet. I doubt they are all from PP on day trip or so. But never mind. The infections are mostly in the Kompong Tracht area near the VN border at the casino. But it spread from there to Kep too by careless Khmer. So the risks gets higher the more people in the general area are infected who travel around and possibly spread it.

I thought the point of masks was to stop people spreading the virus through breathing rather than as protection for themselves.

Both, you just need the right mask.

at a 3 outlet ATM booth the other day the guard got me and two others to wait out side as there was a mask less old German bloke in there along with his masked Khmer lady. ........the three of us waiting were all masked.....mine being a 5 layer version....
when the mask less one came out the guard pointed at him and talked to the couple.... the other 3 of use then went in one by one despite there being 3 empty ATM machines inside....

I've been to kampot a couple of times recently. Both times it felt like there was no pandemic awareness at all, in most areas. And I agree with the OP about maskless foreigners there.

I kinda get why the kampot noticeboard is heavily censored, and I don't see there is any I'll intent there. There's plenty of other Facebook groups for kampot that the OP could use to start his discussion.

If you choose to live in Cambodia, chances are you have a very high tolerance of risk.

Without the rules regarding wearing masks I doubt you would see more than the occasional one on expats.
