If you enjoy noise pollution and obnoxious driving practices, Phnom Penh is the place for you!

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): Cambodian authorities have confiscated a live lion from a Chinese man who was illegally keeping a lion cub in his home in Phnom Penh.

The operation to confiscate the lion took place on the morning of June 27, 2021 in a villa located at No. 22, Street 306, Village 7, Sangkat Boeung Keng Kang I, Khan Boeung Keng Kang, where a Chinese man raised a male lion in his home illegally.

Phnom Penh Prey Chey Administration Director said, "Because some neighbors reported raising lions in the back of the villa by a Chinese man, the authorities cooperated with local authorities to conduct a search of the premises.

He added that people do not have the right to raise wild animals, which is a rare species, which is contrary to the law and Article 49 of the Law on Forestry, paragraph 2 in point 3, which states that the ownership of keeping zoos or endangered species is prohibited.

"A male lion will be handed over to the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Conservation and Rescue Center for further rearing," he said. "The Chinese owners have been called in by the authorities to stop raising such wildlife."

The male lion, which weighs more than 70 kilograms, has been raised by the Chinese man since he was a cub, but he is now about a year and a half old, eating about six kilograms of raw meat a day.

Just wow. Did this Chinese guy import the lion cub or did he buy it from a Cambodian safari park ?
Either way, I think that questions should be asked - and answered - about how a Chinese guy ends up with a pet lion in a Phnom Penh condo. Totally illegal of course, so how is this possible ?

I went to a waterfall without doing my research properly in Kampot a little while back. There was a cage with a male and female lion, and very young cubs, rolling around in the mud while they suckled. Sad sight, and all I could think about for the rest of the day was what was going to happen to that litter. There's a whole fucking zoo there displayed in horrifying cruelty, right on the side of the road...
