Homemade Ricewine Suspected in Villager Deaths

Cambodia News (Prey Veng province): On June 20, 2021, 4 villagers, Chhoun Pov, a 53-year-old man, Seun Phorn, a 31-year-old man, Joy, a 45-year-old man, and Hean Nen, a 47-year-old man, died of suspected poisoning after drinking homemade rice wine in Yot village, Mesor Brochan commune, Pearang district. One of the victims died in the hospital, while the 3 others died at their home.

After the incident, the police are still investigating the cause of the men's sudden death, which led to the closure and ban on the local wine shops. However, they have not yet proved that the victims actually died from drinking it.
The police also tested the victims whether they died from Covid-19, but they were all negative.

Is there any easy way to detect methanol in the drink before drinking it without sending the bottle to a laboratory in Phnom Penh?
