American expat AARON DENNIS ADAIR goes postal in Kampot, Cambodia
Re: American expat AARON DENNIS ADAIR goes postal in Kampot, Cambodia
I don't know what the couple of videos are that were posted in the original post (my browser won't show anything from faceblock) but I'm guessing one of them is the very long one (1 hour +) where he's accusing everyone in the (looks like) hotel / resort of being undercover agents sent by the US government to track him?
The guy clearly has mental health and/or drug issues. I agree he seems unstable enough to pose a threat (to himself and others) and needs to be locked out of harms way, but I'm not convinced that these people need punishment. They are clearly suffering mental illness and need treatment rather than punishment.

You know what. I looked and thought “No. That’s not right” but went for the brain scan gag instead.Khmu Nation wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 3:48 pmIf you look closely you will see this is a native English teacher who can't spell apostrophe.

Mental illness would be an unfortunate situation to find yourself suffering with anywhere, but here in Cambodia I would imagine with no support it would be a downward spiral, again I would think difficult to get any help or treatment. Same goes for the addiction to drugs, possibly being the most likely cause of the above, (since the meth drug had been mentioned) also fuelling the mental health issues deeper until there is no longer a way out.xandreu wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 8:09 pm I don't know what the couple of videos are that were posted in the original post (my browser won't show anything from faceblock) but I'm guessing one of them is the very long one (1 hour +) where he's accusing everyone in the (looks like) hotel / resort of being undercover agents sent by the US government to track him?

Possible that being arrested and presumably held by the police, intervention could have saved this person from anger to others, and the likes of him not being harmed. It may be considered the start of self inflicted treatment, recovery (cold turkey) from the drug that is known to give users anger issues will be a good start.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Unfortunately Cambodia seems to attract many with mental illness and/or drug problems. Why is that?
Re: American expat AARON DENNIS ADAIR goes postal in Kampot, Cambodia
Not sure there is any one definite answer. I think most of us are attracted to Cambodia for its sense of freedom when compared to our own countries, but we all seek freedom from different things. Whether it's the idea of not being tracked and surveilled everywhere you go, not having to contribute as much for things you don't want to contribute to via your taxes, the feeling that big government is breathing down your neck all the time, the perceived sexual freedom, the lax drug laws (both over and under the counter types) and whatever else comes to mind.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 2:33 am Unfortunately Cambodia seems to attract many with mental illness and/or drug problems. For those who make drugs one of their life's priorities, Cambodia is as attractive a place as someone who makes casual sex or their privacy one of their life's priorities.
If you ask anyone what attracted them to Cambodia, you may get a variety of different answers but most of them will boil down to a sense of freedom from something.

Does it attract them or create them? maybe bit of both and I think more the latter.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 2:33 am Unfortunately Cambodia seems to attract many with mental illness and/or drug problems. Why is that?
