Young Kiwi Couple Coming to Cambodia to Help Disadvantaged Women

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

annnnnd there it is
More details: Seems that "Bloom Asia" is affiliated with 'Gateway Beyond', a global Baptist missionary organization. Definitely Christian.

The founders of Bloom Asia are the couple of Australians featured below.
Our 30+ Gateway Beyond workers are following Jesus into more than 15 countries around the world. They teach, disciple, heal and rescue people who then influence and impact families, communities, nations and the world.

We’re speaking the name of Jesus in places it has never been heard.

The mountains and valleys of this particular part of South East Asia are a place of natural beauty, but pain and suffering lurk in the darkness and shadows. This region’s major industries are agriculture, plus a black market trade that includes human trafficking, drugs and civil conflict. Despite its vast resource wealth and recent political change, this region is shackled by the world’s longest running civil conflict. Two Gateway Beyond workers have MADE IT THEIR MISSION to GO and share the light of Jesus among the unreached. “Many people here have never even heard the gospel. You can go into valleys and say Jesus’ name and it’s the first time it’s ever been spoken there,” they say. Their team minister to over 1,600 people each year. They are developing the first self-study Bible study material in the local language, and are teaching, discipling and equipping more than 200 believers through 50+ churches to share the life changing message of Jesus with their family, friends and communities.

Well this is all very interesting..

Your post prompted me to have another, better look on their website here: https://bloomasia.org/ and again, I couldn't find any reference to a religious organisation (happy to be corrected if I missed it though as there's a lot of info there).

So, then I looked on the Australian Government Commission for not for profits and charities here: https://www.acnc.gov.au/charity/9b34abe ... a#overview

Then when I go to 'Financials and documents' and view their Annual Information Statement 2019 under 'About the charity' it says 'Basic Religious Charity: No'

However, if I scroll down to the bottom to download their Governing Document of 30 August 2018 here: https://acncpubfilesprodstorage.blob.co ... _08_16.pdf

Under 'Membership' item: 11.1.1 The first and sole Member of the Company is the Church;

Under 'Definitions' item: 25.1.5 “Church” means Gateway Baptist Church Limited ABN 68 607 195 522;

So there you go...cleverly hidden isn't it? Deceptive even? :(

Being a cross-cultural change agent in Cambodia must be a very difficult job.

I think you may have your industries mixed up, but having bottomless shoes is also clearly a disadvantage.
