HE Ally Buys London ‘Private Bank’ With Shady Ties

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

HE Ally Buys London ‘Private Bank’ With Shady Ties

Post by phuketrichard »

One of Cambodia’s wealthiest families with close ties to Prime Minister HE late last year acquired a British payment services provider, Connectum Limited. That company generates millions of dollars in revenue each year, serving as an intermediary between small businesses and major credit card firms like Visa and MasterCard.

Heng Sokha, wife of former Transport Ministry secretary of state Ing Bun Hoaw, took ownership of Connectum in November 2020. Experts say that should raise red flags for British financial regulators.

For one thing, Heng Sokha’s spouse is a former lawmaker and top official who should be subjected to additional scrutiny over the sources of wealth because of his links to the Cambodian government that date back decades. Bun Hoaw has previously leveraged government connections for profitable enterprises such as collecting tolls on the U.S.-government-funded Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville highway.

But that’s only half the story. The other half relates to the company they have acquired.

Read all about who owns what and when, plus the companies latest accounts. There is a $75,000,000+ client account fund that is "segregated" and now has a German national with Cambodian residency in charge. :D

Accounts:

Website. Its looks like a proper company, make a few million each year (paid in dividends to it's former Latvian owner with Cypriot residency - very tax efficient)

HE's name is auto-corrected to HE. If you mouse over your link you can see that it no longer says his name, but HE instead.

It was introduced OTOF since about 2004 to prevent the site getting "unwanted attention", and since many are members of both sites it seems appropriate here too. 8)
