Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): In a tragic drowning accident, on May 6, 2021, at the northern bank of the Mekong River, Wat Kien Khleang, in Kien Khleang village, Sangkat Chroy Changva, Khan Chroy Changva, Phnom Penh, a mother cried while villagers searched for her 7-year-old son, presumed drowned.

Prior to the incident, two children were paddling in the Mekong River where the stones were being poured, when one of the children fell in to a deep hole and drowned, and the other child ran to tell the nearby villagers and their mother to come and help.

According to a 10-year-old boy who went for a swim together, at around 9 am, he and his friend went to bathe in the Mekong River and were learning to swim. While playing in the water, his friend disappeared, so he ran to tell three fishermen who were nearby, but they told him that they could not swim either, so the boy ran for help. Unfortunately, it was too late, and the villagers had to dive to help find the body of the child victim. RIP.
