Italian GIOVANNI TRIGILIA Found Dead in Kampot River

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

The Latin phrase De mortuis nihil nisi bonum (also De mortuis nil nisi bene [dicendum]) "Of the dead, [say] nothing but good", abbreviated as Nil nisi bonum, is a mortuary aphorism, indicating that it is socially inappropriate to speak ill of the dead as they are unable to justify themselves.

I never suggested such a thing, I was referring to a young Yemeni man who died in the river by Sisowath Quay in Phnom Penh.

John Bingham wrote: Sun May 09, 2021 4:34 pm Yes, to some extent. For example a young Yemeni committed suicide in the Tonle Sap yesterday and they managed to extract enough urine to do a positive test for Methamphetamine. The man was found just a few minutes after he had drowned himself though.

Many have seen him last as he was always on the streets. Only one thing is sure: he didn't go for a swim wearing shoes and face mask.
Maybe he was under the influence of drugs and or alcohol (or both)
He surely was
You know him, he was a drug user? And he was always on the streets, homeless?
I've seen him around (didnt know him personally)
Yeah, was asking itekamp who mentioned the deceased was always on the streets and “surely was” on drugs. Thought he may know more about it.

Yes, yes, and yes. And even though all this apparent negativity he was one of the kindest souls in Kampot

Why do they need $1600? Locals will cremate a body for free if a family has no money.

Gio liked his beer, but he was not on meth and he was not always homeless.
These last months offered him some uphill battle and in the end he ran out of fuel.

He was a humble man, never asked for help, always talked good about others.

RIP
