Video: Better days ahead for Siem Reap hopefully
Here's a fresh few-days-old video tour (12 mins) of the 38 Roads Project reconstruction of Siem Reap.
It's nicely done with subtitles naming the streets and smoothly swivelling, non-bouncy camera work from a tuktuk or moto, covering roughly Wat Bo, south to 7 January (7 Makara), past Psar Chas (Old Market), then to Sivutha and onto Road 6.
What a godawful mess. My condolences to those who have suffered and are suffering through this. I hope this project will be worth it. Looks like some huge, heavy drainage pipes are being sunk into the sides of the roads. Businesses must be devastated.

Re: Video: Better days ahead for Siem Reap hopefully
Timing seems perfect, business-wise.
When the covid issues are dealt with, it won't be really the moment to loose a few places in the international tourist site ranking with annoying projects while the streets are packed with tourists.
Better now, for the best.

Nice video. Filmed on a Saturday but throughout 12 minutes of video it showed no more than 5 road workers. Is this because of Covid slowdown or just no sense of urgency? Noticed an issue on the video that occurred when they were doing the same type of storm drain installation on Norodom. The storm drain vaults in process were not covered or protected. I would walk by every day at 154 and Norodom (across from the Oyster House) and many times the kids had a game where they were throwing rocks and trash in the vaults. In addition to what the workers may be dropping in there and what gets washed in by a heavy rain. Nice idea to put in storm drains and large drainage pipes but of little help when they are already blocked before completion. Saw the same when the plumbers (?) on our construction projects installed the floor drains and did not cover the floor openings while pouring concrete and installing drywall over the top of the drain openings. Took a few times to get them to understand why this could be a problem, especially once the pipes are incased in concrete. Anyway, hope the best for SR and so I can return soon.ExPenhMan wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 5:56 pm Here's a fresh few-days-old video tour (12 mins) of the 38 Roads Project reconstruction of Siem Reap.
