Re: Why US has so many prodigy kids
I don't like watching TV because my house has only local channels. But I like to watch those kids on youtube. I think the kids don't have only talent, but their parents train them very well. Even though kids have talent but if their parents or old people don't help them in growing the talent, I think the kids're still simple ones.

I guess US television is almost everywhere except some countries like north korea. I can't help myself. I am so much in love with so many US television programs.MekongMouse wrote:US television is going through something of a golden era. Growing up, most TV sucked but now I agree - a lot of it is really quite good.

You do not need a tv to watch US television programs. Right internet is really helpful. I mostly watch through internet.prahkeitouj wrote:I don't like watching TV because my house has only local channels. But I like to watch those kids on youtube. some would argue that the huge volumes of information now available will have an equalizing effect on all nations.
a love of reading and research is all that is needed.

Indeed, or ask GM or OD to embed a series you want. There's a whole section of the forum for it. Watching English language TV with subtitles is a great way to learn English. That's how the famously multilingual Dutch do it.

I agree MM. This is such a great idea, however i don't think they have time to do it, or perhaps i will create a thread talking about people favourite of American Television programs. Different time Zone is a big problem. I have a cable TV in my rented room but the thing is that i don't know what time my favourite program is screening.MekongMouse wrote:Indeed, or ask GM or OD to embed a series you want. Re: Why US has so many prodigy kids
One of the problems in this figure (and the cause of educational mismatches between kids of the same grade level in different schools as a result) is there's not a great system for measuring that... that's one of the things common core is trying to solve, so that every kid can be measured against an equal stick.MekongMouse wrote: Funny thing is the US actually lags behind the rest of the developed world in education, so these kids are the exception, not the rule.

You find a series you want and I'll see if I can't make it happen... at least in part.Samouth wrote:I agree MM.
