Wealth creators, by using public infrastructure and paying for favorable legislation and tax breaks via campaign donations (bribes).Doc67 wrote: ↑Tue May 04, 2021 8:37 amOh yes you do!xandreu wrote: ↑Tue May 04, 2021 7:08 am A quick Google search tells me he's worth $124 billion. I realise that your worth is not simply money in the bank and I'm aware of his charity work but you don't have to be a socialist to find it difficult to justify how such eye-watering wealth can be attributed to one individual.
What would the socialists want? Anything above $10 Million to be given to the state? $100 Million? A $Billion?
Pick any number and the moment it is enacted there will be those who promise to reduce it and give more to 'the poor' and send the bill to someone else, if you vote for them.
It is exactly the same as the minimum wage. It is a perfect political tool, the government gives out pay rises in the private sector and sends the bill the wealth creators, but when it comes to the government picking up the bill for any similar largesse, they give the NHS 1%.
Its an asymmetry for gains to pool at the top, but maybe that's a uniquely American issue.

Nobody should get married until they're over forty or fifty years of age I reckon as most don't have much of an idea about anything until then - whether it be about themselves, the world, otters or anything.

I got married at 37. Almost made your standards. (Glad I waited.)

If he has to give her half he may only be left with 60 or 70 billion, OMG I don't know how he will manage
Re: Bill and Melinda Gates divorce after 27 years of marriage
If you had to wait until then, the marriage rate would plummet - people would realise what a terrible construct it is.Kung-fu Hillbilly wrote: ↑Tue May 04, 2021 12:02 pm Nobody should get married until they're over forty or fifty years of age I reckon as most don't have much of an idea about anything until then - whether it be about themselves, the world, otters or anything.
Marriages should have a sunset clause, maybe 5 years, whereupon either side can walk away without any further liability. If both want to renew then throw a vow-renewal party. This money-for-life racket, alimony etc., is not worth the risk (unless she is loaded, in which case it's a brilliant reason to marry her)
