Thailand's new cases exceed 2,000, set record

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Thailand's new cases exceed 2,000, set record

https://www.yahoo.com/news/asia-today-t ... 55631.html
BANGKOK (AP) — Thailand’s health authorities announced Friday they have confirmed 2,070 new COVID-19 cases, a new daily record that brings the country's total to 50,183.

The rising numbers are severely straining the supply of hospital beds and ICU capacity.

The record number of new infections came a day after a new daily high of seven deaths was announced. Four more deaths were announced Friday, bringing Thailand's total to 121.

At the beginning of March, Thailand had 26,031 cases with double-digit daily increases, but a new outbreak sent the numbers skyrocketing.

Taweesilp Visanuyothin, a spokesman for the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration, said Bangkok, with the highest number of cases, has only 69 empty ICU beds left out of a total of more than 400. He said that is enough for the next six to eight days according to the projected demand of 10-13 additional ICU beds per day. Nationwide demand, forecast at 52 ICU beds per day, would use up the capacity in 19 days, he said.

Under Thai law, infected patients must be held in hospital facilities, but even with the addition of field hospitals there are not enough beds. There are 19,873 people in hospitals and field facilities nationwide, but in some areas that are short of beds, infected people are isolating at home.

 Well I guess autumn travel was indeed optimistic
I don't know reasonably how much more poor people and hospitality workers can take of these closures.

Thailand to tighten border controls after detecting South African COVID-19 variant
24/05/21 00:16
BANGKOK, May 23 (Reuters) - Thai border controls will tighten after the discovery of three local cases of the South African Covid-19 variant stemming from illegal border crossings, authorities said on Sunday (May 23), as the country grapples to contain its worst coronavirus outbreak yet.

The first local case of the South African variant, known as B1351, was detected on May 4 in a 32-year-old Thai man after he was visited by family who entered Thailand from Malaysia through an informal border crossing, the director-general of the disease control department said.

Movement of people has been restricted in the affected district and only two other cases of the South African variant, out of 81 cases, have been detected there since the start of May, Dr Opas Karnkawinpong said.
"The South African variant discovered is similar to those found in Malaysia," Dr Opas said.

This bloody shit good for nothing illegal government alway reactive and never proactive in preventing CCP virus. Only when shit hits the fan then they act. We are in a crisis now and "tighten border control" is a daily thing not waiting until another "international" variant hit Thailand.

Anyway there's no hope with a clown like this, its been 7 bloody years
