With the UK showing substantial infection rates at the moment, up 30% to 2.3 million current infections, I am looking forward to getting back to Cambodia before they have another panic attack and possibly reintroduce hoops to jump through and even the dreaded "Q" words starts being talked about again...

Make it fast Doc, the gov't is taking omicron seriously and has launched a massive booster campaign.

It appears omicron is able to evade the defenses acquired through vaccination and prior infection;
We considered many facets of immunity, including the antibodies most implicated in protection (“neutralising antibodies”), as well as protective “immune memory” in white blood cells. The results tell us it is unsurprising that breakthrough infections were so common. Most people – even when triple-vaccinated – had 20 times less neutralising antibody response against Omicron than against the initial “Wuhan” strain. Importantly, Omicron infection was a poor booster of immunity to further Omicron infections. It is a kind of stealth virus that gets in under the radar without doing too much to alert immune defences. Even having had Omicron, we’re not well protected from further infections.

Also, to be added to the now complex mix is “immune imprinting”. This is the finding that our immune response to Covid is shaped very differently, depending on our prior exposures – infection in one wave relative to another, plus vaccination. In our study, those who’d been infected in the first wave and then again with Omicron had particularly poor T-cell responses and no boosting of antibodies. That is, some combinations of exposures may leave us poorly protected relative to others.

Covid rapid test on border a must: Minister
Mom Kunthear | Publication date 16 July 2022 | 08:54 ICT

Minister of Health Mam Bun Heng instructed the governors of all provinces bordering Thailand, Laos and Vietnam to give rapid tests to all inbound travelers who enter Cambodia via maritime and land borders without exception.

The instruction came following the removal of quarantine requirements for unvaccinated travelers and those who are only partially vaccinated on July 8.

“To reduce the risk of spreading new variants of Covid-19 from abroad via Cambodian migrant workers who return to Cambodia through waterways and on land from Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19 with base shots and booster shot, they are required to take the rapid test free of charge,” the minister said.

Vandine warns of aggressive new sub-variant of Omicron ‘BA2.75’
Mom Kunthear | Publication date 24 July 2022 | 20:18 ICT
A top health official has called on people to be extra vigilant in protecting themselves from the spread of Covid-19, as another sub-variant of Omicron – known as BA2.75 – has been detected in Thailand.

Or Vandine, secretary of state and spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health, said that although it had been detected in the neighbouring country, it was not yet present in Cambodia.

“It’s a new strain of the BA.2 sub-variants, but still a form of Covid-19. According to early analysis, this sub-variant is more aggressive and transmissible than earlier ones,” she said.

“There is the possibility of this variant developing, and we do not know how far it will go. So I urge everyone to remain vigilant, and please make sure that your vaccinations are up to date,” she said.

When there is testing, there are often results. As an example of the small, but continuing presence of Covid in the community in Cambodia, a schoolgirl tested positive for Covid yesterday, when she was tested for the virus just before sitting the exam for her high school diploma.
