My double vaccinated, 90-year-old father, who had managed to avoid the main covid outbreak of the previous two years living alone in his small unit, moved into a Nursing Home just before Xmas.
Three weeks later, he tested positive for covid, was on a ventilator with oxygen levels in the danger zone.
A week later, he tested negative. He continued with the ventilator on an 'as needed' basis.
Now has no ventilator. He turned 91 last Friday.

503 students infected with C-19 as over 10 schools closed

Phnom Penh is now dealing with a large uptick in Covid cases, especially the Omicron, and is grappling to contain it with schoolchildren being infected and more than 10 schools shut down.

With more than 500 students in Phnom Penh city infected with the virus, experts are pushing for digital learning and online studies till this contagious and highly transmissible spread of the virus is contained.

Phnom Penh Education Department Director Hem Sinareth yesterday said that ever since the new academic year began on January 10, there have been more than 500 students infected with the Omicron variant and more will contract it due to parents’ negligence and careless behavior.
Sinareth said parents don’t even inform the schools when their children are infected with Covid so that they can disinfect the classrooms and check on the condition of other students whom the infected students came in contact with.

Prime Minister HE has announced that he has instructed ‘authorities at all levels not to apply the law related to the law governing COVID-19 and other infectious diseases…during the New Year, unless there is a serious infectious situation’

He said that he had made the decision after seeing that in the past two days of the Khmer New Year celebrations, people did not properly implement health rules.

Speaking in Preah Sihanouk Province this morning, the PM instructed the authorities and all competent officials not to apply health rules for recreation during the New Year.

He said, “I do not intend to impose any ban on the entertainment of the people during the New Year, and also ask the authorities at all levels not to apply the law related to COVID-19 and other infectious diseases are not applicable during the New Year, unless there is a serious infectious situation, [then[ we will announce to our people to suspend or their fun activities.”

Concerns had been raised after images of maskless Khmer New Year revellers in mass gatherings had been widely disseminated via the media.

Are these Cambodian figures accurate?

Seems strange compared to the neighbours.

Today in Thailand.

Daily Covid-19 cases fell by more than a thousand to 17,775, the government said on Sunday, but new fatalities rose to 128, a record during the Omicron phase of the pandemic.

Sunday's figures compared with 18,892 new cases and 125 coronavirus-related fatalities announced on Saturday morning.
