Whatzup - Breaking Cambodia Covid News on Outbreaks and Lockdowns

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

COVID-19: Death Toll Exceeds 2,000
AKP Phnom Penh, September 09, 2021 --

The COVID-19 death toll in Cambodia increased to 2,007 this morning, after 20 more people lost their lives due to the pandemic, according to a press release of the Ministry of Health.

Moreover, it continued, 589 new cases of COVID-19 were registered; bringing the national counts to 97,524.

Of the new infections, 148 were imported and the rest were linked to the Feb. 20 community outbreak, it added.

But at the same time, 480 more patients have successfully recovered; the total cured cases thus rose to 92,495.

In a news release last night, the Ministry of Health announced the detection of a total of 3,323 cases of Delta variant in Cambodia so far, most of them are in Phnom Penh capital, followed by the provinces of Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, Siem Reap, Stung Treng, and Kandal.

Only one province - Kep - has not yet been affected by the fast-spreading Delta variant, it underlined.

The first COVID-19 case was reported in Cambodia in late January 2020 in Preah Sihanouk province. The confirmed cases have surged quickly this year due to the Feb. 20 incident.

In part the K Times reads "– Public and private educational institutions that do not yet have a policy to reopen
– All kinds of club businesses, such as karaoke, bar, disco, beer garden and casino
– Resorts, museums, playgrounds and parks
– Massage, sauna and all kinds of business
– Cinemas, art theatres, gyms and sports centres of all kinds."

Why are parks and playgrounds closed but worker transport trucks still allowed to travel through the streets. Construction sites with workers from different locations working together yet riverside closed for people to walk along. The Khmer eateries with 6 people within a square meter but restaurants must have separation between seating. Markets open everywhere and people free to visit any market from any sangkat or province and get in a twelve seat taxi to go inter province.

What is covered in the wording "all kinds of business"

Is there any logical or medically justifiable reasonings for these actions and inactions?

Again what qualifications apart from having the money , from very good investments, to purchase the position do these decision makers have?

Is PP so much more susceptible to covid than Sinoville?

just my musings. :hattip:

In the riverside area the songkat apparently wants one person from every house and every shop in the area to test for the delta variant. A sort of random sample to assess the general level of delta infection I guess...

That's going to be more than likely more people than they normally can test in the day.

After mass vaccination I wonder why they still count 'cases' instead of people with serious symptoms straining the health care system.

Exactly. What's the point of counting "cases"? They should be counting hospitalizations. Not just here, but everywhere.

Are they still taking away delta + cases or have they given up on that now the number over 3500? Are they still closing down entrie streets when they find a Delta + cases? That was obviously a rip-roaring success.

I can't see many volunteers coming forward, they will have to go and get them, one by one.

I feel a Kampot trip coming on...

Perhaps this is what the announcements they have been blaring the last couple of days are about. If they go door to door, they'll probably miss me again, like they did during the Census.
