UK Donates 415,000 AstraZeneca Vaccines to Cambodia
AKP Phnom Penh, July 29, 2021 --
The United Kingdom has announced a donation of 415,000 AstraZeneca vaccines to Cambodia to contribute with the latter in the containment and prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cambodia is among the first countries to receive 415,000 AstraZeneca vaccines in a bilateral agreement, underlined a news release of the UK Government AKP received this morning, adding that the vaccines are expected to start leaving the UK this week.
“The UK is sending 415,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Cambodia as part of the first batch of the 100 million doses we’ve pledged, to get the poorest parts of the world vaccinated as a matter of urgency. We’re doing this to help the most vulnerable, but also because we know we won’t be safe until everyone is safe,” said British Foreign Secretary H.E. Dominic Raab.
For her part, British Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Ms. Tina Redshaw said these 415,000 AstraZeneca vaccines will support local communities in Cambodia to restart businesses, protect health services and restore livelihoods. “I’m delighted the UK is fulfilling its commitment to donate vaccines across the world both bilaterally, as in this case, and through COVAX including here in Cambodia,” she stressed.
Cambodia has so far received nearly 18 million doses of vaccines through purchases and donations: 6.2 million doses of Sinopharm, 10.5 million doses of Sinovac, and 656,000 doses of AstraZeneca.
As of July 28, 7,043,969 people in Cambodia have got their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, or 70.44 percent of the planned 10 million people for the vaccination, among them 4,626,648 have been fully vaccinated, according to the figures from the National Ad-hoc Commission for COVID-19 Vaccination.
