That's an awful lot of imported cases in one day. Any information on where that cluster came in from?

Cambodian PM Highlights National Vaccination Strategy
ចេញផ្សាយ ថ្ងៃទី ២៩ ខែ ឧសភា ឆ្នាំ ២០២១
AKP Phnom Penh, May 29, 2021 --

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE this morning emphasised the national vaccination strategy against the COVID-19 pandemic, after the number of new infections is increasing recently.

There have been many requests for COVID-19 vaccination from different institutions and sectors, therefore Samdech Techo HE took the opportunity to inform the public that the national vaccination strategy has to be implemented in accordance with the vaccination master plan.

The Premier said the vaccination programme in Cambodia has been carried out using a "blooming flower" strategy by administering vaccines from the core outbreak areas.

“We cannot vaccinate some people in an area, and then some others in other area. If we do like this, we cannot achieve the herd immunity,“ he underlined.

Samdech Techo HE said Phnom Penh capital is the main priority for the vaccination campaign, after that, there will be some towns in Kandal province, then other targets.

In general, our vaccination programme will be conducted in any towns with many people first depending on the vaccines in stock, but the government planned to vaccinate more than 10 million people, he stressed.

The Prime Minister pointed out that more than 2.4 million people have so far been vaccinated, and today the figure would reach some 2.5 million.

Samdech Techo HE said from 5 to 6 million people are in the priority groups for the vaccination, most of them live in town, industrial or factory parks, but the vaccination programme have to be implemented step by step.

In Phnom Penh, around 50 to 60 percent have been already vaccinated, therefore the infection rate and risks will be mitigated, he added.

Cambodia has set to vaccinate around 10 million people or 62 percent of the total population against COVID-19 and up to the half of 2022, more than 95 percent are expected to be inoculated.

The Kingdom has so far received over 6 million doses of vaccines: 1.7 million doses of China-donated Sinopharm, 4 million doses of Sinovac bought from China, and 324,000 doses of AstraZeneca/SII (COVISHIELD) via COVAX Facility. More doses are expected to arrive in Cambodia next month.

No wonder case numbers are on the rise:

Kandal Prison COVID outbreak increases to almost 300 cases

The outbreak of COVID in Kandal Provincial Prison has now increased to 298 cases.

The outbreak was first reported on May 25th.

On the 26th of May, The Director General of the General Department of Prisons, Mr. Chhem Savuth, said that cases of COVID-19 infection among inmates and prison officials “…are not widespread and can be controlled. Currently, we are doing more research, there is no problem, we can stop this.”

However, since then, numbers have almost tripled from the initial report of 106 cases. It is not immediately clear what the proportion of staff to prisoners in the case total is.

Patients are being taken care of by doctors from Kandal Provincial Health Department with Police officers being deployed around the prison.

Earlier, fears have been raised of a similar outbreak to ones seen recently in Thai prisons – where thousands of Thai prisoners are reported to have contacted the deadly virus.

Keep being told "no" but apparently I'm a straggler:

Nearly 2 million people in Phnom Penh vaccinated against Covid-19

As of May 27, nearly 2 million people in Phnom Penh have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in accordance with the Royal Government’s determination that all Phnom Penh residents will be vaccinated against Covid-19 by June 2021.

From February 18 to May 27, 2021, 1,914,641 people in Phnom Penh have been vaccinated against Covid-19, in which the figure on May 26 was 1,821,559 people and the figure on May 27, was an additional 93,082 people, which makes the number of people vaccinated increases to 1,914,641.

This is according to the report of Phnom Penh Capital Administration dated May 28, 2021. The city and Ministry of Health officials are determined to complete the vaccination process as soon as possible so that the vaccination team can be deployed to other areas, leaving a small team behind to carry out vaccination for the stragglers who have missed it for some reason or rather.

Phnom Penh residents are forecasted to be fully vaccinated by June and the move will take place to garment factories.
