The Unraveling of the American Empire- Chris Hedges

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"[11]

That poem, written by an advocate for open borders, was not part of the original statue or its intent. It was added years later.

I am always amazed at expat Americans like Phuketrichard who profess their pride in being American, which actually only means being a U. S. citizen. A typical sign of the arrogance instilled in the U. S. population by said imperialist governments. Why do these expats live abroad then?
At the turn of the 20th century Teddy Roosevelt, after defeating Spain and getting the Philippines as a "reward", then said, 'we are now the new empire', comparing the U. S. to Britain and France. The rise of the industrial-military complex (president Eisenhower's coinage) after WWII and Communism enabled the U. S. to play this preeminent role in the world leading to the disasters described in the article. The people follow those so-called perceived 'American' ideals on account of their constant exposure to a relentless U. S. propaganda extolling those virtues.
That the U. S. is in decline is a fact and cannot be refuted. Bill Clinton in a famous interview once stated in the late 90ies that the U. S. as it is now will probably cease to exist by 2050. I believe that.

Berlin wall has fallen, Soviet union was disintegrated, USA will go same way. Another Trump win or someone with same "values" and civil war will start.

The problem isn't so much America's downfall, it's simply inevitable when you look at the decay within that has been accelerating.

The problem is what's coming next. While there's a lot to criticize about the American Empire, I'm certain the Chinese Empire will be much worse.
