Charities and such organizations information?
Re: Charities and such organizations information?
Ok, feed them today. What about tomorrow..........and the next day.........and the next..........and after the pandemic.
How far are you willing to go?
If you're going to take up the mantle that the government should be handling.......you better be in it for the long haul.
And not desert the perpetually destitute once you've had your fill and are ready to move on to writing bleeding heart poverty porn pieces for The New Yorker or virtue signalling on Bookface.
That's my opinion anyway.

Totally agree with you that the Government should be providing for these people in a "perfect world"- and in fairness to them - they are making big efforts to distribute food and other necessities to those in need at the moment.Brody wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 11:13 amOk, feed them today. But it is not a perfect world and, it seems to me, many people are slipping through the cracks - people who sleep on the streets, people who sleep in their tuk tuks or cyclos, many, many others
When presented with them literally starving in the city in which I live, I choose to try and help them.
I am in a position where I have some disposable income to give to others. I appreciate many may not have funds to give to others.
Of course it is my personal choice - but I am sure that many on this board will do the same - whether through personal, neighbourhood help or through an organisation like COVD Help
Its all a matter of choice. I respect your opinion, but - for myself, I think that sometimes we need to think in the short term.
I don't feel I am "virtue signalling". I just made board members aware of an organisation that I think is doing a good job - it's the individuals choice as to whether they choose (or not choose) to contribute.

i think you could embarrass the govt at the same time as helping
by providing food that is not a copy of the insulting govt rations
some fresh vegetables for example

I wasn't meaning to say that you are virtue signalling, per se.
I am curious though, why the need to immediately go outside your own borders........surely there are social programs that desperately need your generous donations of time and/or money......right in your own backyard, in your own Country.

I must be a sucker. Just after Khmer new year I sent some money to people I know stuck in the capital, out of work, and formerly living from payment to payment. Their businesses have seized to exist so no social security whatsoever. They're unable to leave for their villages to live the cheap self sustaining village life because of road closures, lockdown and extreme fear in the village they will bring the virus with them.Brody wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 11:13 amOk, feed them today. I'm not in it for the long run, but these are really hard times for some out there. If I ever hit rock bottom I sincerely hope someone will do me the same favor.

Stop being obtuse.
That is a different conversation. You're helping specific people you know.........We were talking about the entire community at large.

In my own home country, the UK, there are many issues that need addressing. Luckily, we have a much better welfare system than Cambodia - certainly not perfect and there are certainly many issues of deprivation in the UK - even though it is the 5th or 6th (I think) richest country in the worldBrody wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 11:59 amWell said and I respect your opinion as well.PPUG wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 11:27 am Its all a matter of choice. However, I am in Phnom Penh at the moment - have been for almost 10 years - so the immediate issue I am seeing is in my Phnom Penh "backyard"
I know that any small help I can give is just a "drop in the ocean" - but I guess if enough "drops" get together than something can achieved - even of it is just a very short term "bandage" on a serious long term issue

You cant expect that government take care of underprivileged people in 3rd world country? Even in the richest country in the world people sleep under bridges and don't have access to free health care or any other needed social security.

I just get a little cynical as I live in a borey where I can't go a single day without seeing half a dozen high luxury automobiles, the cost of which could support a rice farming family of 4 for 15 years at least.
I want these fat-cats to take a more active roll.......not in their own rice bowls..........but in the multitude of destitute countrymen and women.
What's the oft used phrase here, "Khmer love Khmer" ? Put your money where your fucking mouth is.
