Cancel Culture

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

Cancel Culture

The term is getting a bit of a run at moment.
the floor is open...

(LOL, hey Mods - to make this boring old topic a bit more lively, could we maybe suspend normal banning standards and other rules of engagement?
A bit of actual face-to-face cage fighting would probably would draw out what people reeeallly think about free-range posting and publishing.

Hard to know where to start almost every day there are stories here in the UK. Last week the leader of the labour party Kier Starmer visited a church to congratulate them on their vaccine centre and a food bank they have been running. Big mistake cos this church does not like gay marriage. No hatred speech has been said by them only that they follow the bible. Cue the mob (stonewall in this case) who accused them and him of homophobia. Kier Starmer immediately apologised and removed the video of the visit from his website.

He has been to numerous Mosques for the same thing but nobody has said anything why ? Cos suggesting that Islam is intolerant about gays gets you cancelled for being "Islamaphobic"

This just in from the British Army...
FFS wrote:Troops from 22 Engineer Regiment have been told not to refer to each other using that word ("Lads") as it may cause offence - even if there are no females present. Several other words have also been banned, including 'mankind' and 'sportsmanship' as the Armed Forces drives further towards being a gender-neutral organisation. The ban on the use of "lads" is contained in a set of orders given by 22 Engineer Regiment’s sergeant major to all troops taking part in online meetings.
These people must be stopped.

For decades we kept hearing from the Right that free market capitalism and free speech was great because the invisible hand of the market would make all things good and it’s better to let anyone say and do anything and let the public decide what they would and wouldn’t tolerate.

Now it’s finally happening and people are deciding they’re not on board with systemic racism, sexism, homophobia and other forms of bigotry, those same people are crying “Cancel Culture” and acting like it’s the fucking Holocaust or something.

I vote to cancel anyone who uses the term woke in an adult conversation about anything. In fact, it should be done in the same way as they used to cancel tickets. Pounded with a decent rubber stamp!
There you go. My contribution to tolerance.

It would be nice, I think, to just not veil meaning and nonmeaning in faddish terms when we could speak more plainly and not-annoyingly where possible. Just my two cents.

Oh and incidentally, literally none of the memes people have posted above reflect any kind of reality that exists outside of the pages of the Daily Mail.

You’re getting yourselves worked up apoplectic not over what people’s views are, but what you’ve been told they are by people who want you to hate them.
