Man Shot Dead in Front of ABA Bank

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Police are trained to aim for the torso so they don't miss and hit anybody else!

Lol at fend off an attacker with a knife, if you've ever had a knife pulled on you then you'd hope whatever events in your life leading up to this moment somehow blessed you with a gun in your hand.
Slow down little world, you're changing too fast.

Maybe the guy actually tried to hit his legs but there was a ricochet off the ground causing the fatal wound..

A warning shot in the air, seriously ?, when your life is in danger & you're probably terrified, you put the attacker down straight away & stop the threat, its not a movie or tv show where you can piss about reading out human rights rubbish & appealing to their better nature first, before shooting them in the knee etc lol, its real life
Being terrified might apply you but this guard was a moonlighting cop. Cops even in Cambodia are trained to fire a warning shot first. Having a gun in your hand gives you the upper hand versus a knife-wielding attacker. He was just another sorry example of the cops here. Moot now anyway, as he was released based on self-defense.

Human rights rubbish? Let's hope you won't ever get into a situation like this where you shot a man dead or caused the death of a person here - in self-defense or by accident. You remember the accident in which a Russian killed two people on a motorbike because he swerved into the oncoming lane. The drunk village police chief shot out of an alley onto the main road which the Russian tried to avoid? At 9 am in the morning.

Warning shot theory is bollox; most armed police nowdays are trained that

- warning shots can hit or kill innocent people or incite suspect to escalate their attack
- they are trained to shoot for the centre of mass - torso, not shoot knees, hands or other made for TV bollox
- and they are also trained to shoot until suspect is down, no pitty patty stuff

And your strawman about a traffic accident is just that, it's not relevant here

Warning shots are not really a thing in 2000s anymore, that is true. But in what country police is trained to shoot centre of torso as many times as suspect is down in this kind of situation? My guess UK or USA? Any country where police gets a proper training that is not the case. Though I come from country where police has killed one person in last 20 years.

It's shoot centre of mass until they go down. Could be one shot, could be the full clip or more- depends on individual set of circumstances of each incident.

The referred accident was in relation to the human rights rubbish remark.

The news is full of stories where police shoot first and think second. Best example: a cop shoots a guy in the car 7 times in the back. He "thought" the guy was reaching for a gun. Trigger happy lot there. It seems on this forum too.

I still maintain that death could have been avoided.

Guy shouldn't have brought a knife to a gunfight.
