A Head Statue Found in Trapeang Phong Temple’s Complex
AKP Phnom Penh, April 06, 2021 --
A piece of statue known as the head of “Preah Neareay” (Narayan) have been found at Trapeang Phong Temple’s complex in Siem Reap province, according to APSARA National Authority.
With the thickness of 18 centimetres and the height of 38 centimetres by 20-centimetre width, the remaining sandstone head statue was a right-side face with one eyebrow, an eye, nose tip, lips and one ear.
On the head statue, there is a cylinder-shaped crown covering the forehead, added the source.
According to Mr. Chhouk Somala, an expert of Arts Inventory Registration of the Temple Conservation Department in Angkor Park and Preventive Archaeology, the statue likely belongs to the Kulen style because of some known features of it.
The Trapeang Phong Temple was the design of the Kulen style, and built in the 9th century.
The discovered sculpture has been kept at the authority’s centre for registration and further research is on-going, he added.
