you didnt post that, its not deathy enoughCEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 3:45 pmDo you mean this item that was posted 10 days ago : cambodian-culture-and-language/topic43801.html ?Kung-fu Hillbilly wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 1:20 pm Brought up the same subject a few weeks/month ago with the usual "scroll on by if you don't like it" responses and the general consensus appearing to be most members like the hack, burn and crash stories. It's true we've the choice to read it or not, I guess, and with the CEO demographic being what it is I understand why it's gobbled up.
I recently read an article of a thousand year-old Khmer iron furnace discovered by archaeologists which is aiding scientists in their understanding of the earth's magnetic field - thought about posting it, then decided against it as it doesn't appear many are interested in those types of stories, preferring to read how yet another Cambodian got beheaded or raped. CEO will be what it will be and it's each individual's decision if they want to read it.
Personally, I haven't participated or read much as a consequence of the endless gore and violence..
The cultural section is generally SFW.

I remembered the KFH used to post a number of non-gore type stories. Without looking back at all of them, didn't they receive a rather tepid response?
Seems logical that CEO News would post the stories that generate the most interest (views and/or posts).

Would be nice to read some original stories rather than copy/paste or translated articles without a source. Are there no budding writers about these days?

From time to time members will post their experiences.Cameron_Newbe wrote:Would be nice to read some original stories rather than copy/paste or translated articles without a source. Are there no budding writers about these days?
However, some members trust ‘original stories’ from the government or newspapers. Otherwise everything is dismissed as hearsay.
For one, I love the translations. Really gets into the mind of the Khmer reporters and how they view things.

Re: news at the moment
Some news articles have been written from scratch by CEO News. Mostly on topics that are not sensational and probably overlooked.
Of course, much of the news items are copied and translated from Khmer news directly, but some are original items posted by CEO News to open up discussion on the environment and other problems in society in Cambodia.
For example: newsworthy/fishermens-alarm-grows-over- ... 29717.html
These are not original CEO stories because they come from reported Khmer news, but we do try to make them interesting, readable, and topical.

Many news items on CEO are posted without a source because they are amalgamated - put together with several sources from Khmer news. We may take several different sources on the same news item, and then attempt to put them together to form a coherent story so it makes better sense for our readers.Cameron_Newbe wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 8:20 pm Would be nice to read some original stories rather than copy/paste or translated articles without a source. Yes. We also want to give foreign and expat readers an idea of what Cambodians are receiving as news items and how they see these events. Hopefully, that furthers understanding into why we sometimes have cultural differences.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 8:38 pm From time to time members will post their experiences.

Re: news at the moment
The feeling might be different depending on wether your condition had improved or worsen since, say, one year ago, for example. Appreciation of quality differs wether you're happy or not.
Make a poll : did your condition A- improved / B-worsened
That might shed a light on how people feel when they read (in theory, to be checked) as much as usual good & bad news published as, say, one year ago.
There might be a correlation, don't you think ?
THEN argue for hours about the quality of posts evolution since one year ago, if that condition variable turns out to be stable / equal.

That "gavinmac" fellow or whatever he goes by here, used to write some interesting original content on TOF - he seems to have a lot of time on his hands, and it was good stuff too, IIRC.Cameron_Newbe wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 8:20 pm Would be nice to read some original stories rather than copy/paste or translated articles without a source. He's hated here so don't say that or you'll be banned.Ong Tay wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 12:34 amThat "gavinmac" fellow or whatever he goes by here, used to write some interesting original content on TOF - he seems to have a lot of time on his hands, and it was good stuff too, IIRC.Cameron_Newbe wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 8:20 pm Would be nice to read some original stories rather than copy/paste or translated articles without a source. Silence, exile, and cunning.
Re: news at the moment
I like the news topic a lot - but it could also be expanded to include business, transport, development, more wildlife, cultural etc

Easy fix search Khmer Times for interested news and post, with the Link
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.
