Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): On March 13, 2021, at 7:25 pm, the body of a young man, who has been missing for two days, was found in a plot number one along Tiger Road, Ta Prohm Village, Sangkat Prek Eang, Khan Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh.

The victim is Sao Kroeun, alias Pov, male, 37 years old, truck driver, living with his brother in Boang Kanh village, Sangkat Prek Eang, Khan Chbar Ampov.

According to the brother, the victim disappeared from 11 March until his body was found last night around 5:00 pm on March 13, 2021. The body had decomposed, and some construction workers near the above location suspected that something was wrong because it smelled rotten and there were a lot of flies swarming around the body. The men reported the discovery to the authorities, who came to the scene.

After conducting an examination at the site, the police and a team of doctors confirm that the victim died as a result of a murder. (There were marks on the neck and seven stab wounds in the chest). The man had also been robbed of his motorycle and his belongings.

- 1 mobile phone
- Some jewelry
$ 400 in cash.


At present, the body has been handed over to the family for a traditional ceremony at Wat Prek Eang.

UPDATE: Two arrests have been made.

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh-Takeo): In Takeo province on the afternoon of March 16, 2021,the Criminal Police Department in collaboration with the Office of Serious Crimes of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, Chbar Ampov District Police Inspectorate and Takeo Provincial Police arrested two men for a crime of robbery and murder, committed on 11 March in Khan Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh.

During the operation, specialized forces arrested two perpetrators, Mao Ratha alias Chib and Meng Na Khim, and confiscated a black OPPO phone and a black 2019 Honda Dream C125 motorcycle, with license plate number 1H-1406, which belonged to the deceased.


The two suspects confessed that on March 11, 2021, they robbed and stabbed the victim, Saor Sroeun, male, 37 years old, in order to steal his motorcycle, gold necklace, ring, gold bracelet and phone.

After the murder, the two killers divided up the stolen goods; Mao Ratha took the gold rings and necklaces, while Meng Na Khim took the motorcycle, the mobile phone and the bracelet, and fled to Kirivong district, Takeo province. The Criminal Police Department are still questioning the two suspects.

Another reminder about how little a life is worth in Cambodia. They even had to split what littlte they robbed in the murder. Rule number 1: Never show off any valuables, you may become a target.

It always amazes me how much gold 'normal' (ie not particularly rich) Cambodians will wear on a daily basis.
And don't get me started on small kids wearing gold necklaces and bracelets. It's just not a good idea IMO.
