Top 3 jobs for an expat?
Re: Top 3 jobs for an expat?
That’s what i meant: people who get sent here by their employers from other countries. Those aren’t considered expats?John Bingham wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 5:13 pm The question was about best jobs for expats, not the best jobs for those resident in their home countries.

I still don't get what you meant about people who get sent here by their employers from other countries. Please clarify.theKid wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 6:05 pmThat’s what i meant: people who get sent here by their employers from other countries. My previous tenant was a pilot, Singaporean fella, who was stationed here for 18 months, sent by his overseas airline.
My current tenant is Korean working at the Korean embassy, 3 year stint, then he is probably going somewhere else.
Are they expats?

I wasn't replying to your comment, anyone livng long term abroad could be considered an expat. Whoever mentioned that many could earn more at home missed the point, although their opinion is perfectly valid.theKid wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 6:05 pmThat’s what i meant: people who get sent here by their employers from other countries. I am training to be a gigolo. So far survived a 7 year training period and hope to begin full time employment soon.

Best job hands down: Consultant! Booz Allen, A.T. Kearney, Mc Kinsey & Co., E&Y etc. Minimum $1000 per day plus expenses but the sky is the limit. It makes no difference whether its Cambodia or anywhere else. In fact the more of a "shit hole" the more attractive because you get more expenses. We used to have IBM guys in Saudi Arabia who got a free first class ticket back to the USA every two weeks plus two weeks off at full pay because it was a "dangerous posting".
Re: Top 3 jobs for an expat?
I've worked at IBM for "a k a day" before, and that was in London 20 years ago, let alone a 'dangerous posting' ... Never again. Sometimes a job isn't just about the money - I envied the guys who were on peanuts but actually saw their families, saw their kids grow up, had time for hobbies, etc. Time and moments lost that I will never get back.
Equally I wouldn't fall into the "do what you love" millennial , every job has horrible moments where you just have to stick at it - some jobs you learn to love as you go along; so definitely take jobs that you can do, even if they're not your ideal choice.
In the words of the great Bill Burr, "we're all eating a giant shit sandwich", get on with it.

Scamming and deceiving fresh arrived foreigners is a popular one.
