Cambodia's Anti-Drug Campaign 2021- 2022

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I'm no stranger to drugz and booze, and while they can be plenty of fun, the ones fashionable these days are pure crap and even neurotoxic!

yup
absolutely no meth labs in cambodia at all
Well there might be some but I can only remember one or two major operations being busted in the past decade. It's more likely that the methamphetamines, heroin and ketamine being trafficked through here is from labs in Myanmar and China. Let us know if you know different but otherwise you are just speculating.
Just a simple answer
Shake and Bake- the simple way to make crystal meth.

Where are you going to get cold pills? Those ephedrine ones are banned here.

of course myanmar is the daddy, being even more of a mafia state
but it doesn't take much digging into statistics etc to understand this is a growing problem in cambodia
and basic economics suggests the reason
it's cheap to make; production costs can be a much smaller fraction than trafficking costs
It's a growing population all over the world
We lucky maybe not here in 100 years

Yes, there are many simple legal drugs banned here, also many needed ones for people's illnesses.
A sure way to find the labs and halt or disrupt the drug trade would be to stop its supply of the legal substances. You quote - Where are you going to get cold pills? It would be a good start for the authorities to look in that direction.

What's the point in all this conjecture? The drugs are coming from Myanmar and China via the land borders.

And possibly sea! What is the point, it's not particularly a point, only a discussion being that it is a forum. I like your responses because they mostly come with good knowledge of the country and situations. In the situation now, He says it's not getting any better, but like back in the days of opium trafficking, again from the golden triangle, Cambodia was known as the wheel hub for distribution, drug trafficking. But the poppy fields could be spotted from aircraft and satellite, and could be stopped at source. But with today and the drug of meth being made in the same area, there's little chance of stopping it's suppliers. But for labs elsewhere there probably is.

Methamphetamine is everywhere in Cambodia. Even the villagers sell it in the countryside. Once upon a time, if you had a drug problem in Phnom Penh or another big city, you could go back to the village and dry out. Now you will probably find that the drugs in the countryside are even less expensive than in town.

There are many news items, like this one, every day in Khmer news:

Cambodia News (Battambang): On April 05, 2021, at 11:30 am, Koh Krolor inspector cracked down on drug trafficking in Prey Torteung village, Koh Krolor district, Battambang, and arrested a woman with some drug.

Lieutenant Pang Heang, the inspector, reported that according to the order of general lieutenant Sath Kimsan, Battambang police chief, and the instruction of lieutenant Koy Heang the deputy director of the anti-drug department, the police arrested a 29-year-old woman, Oung Kunthea, called Mab, who lives in Somlut district, Battambang.

The police confiscated 50 packs of drugs (ICE), a scales, a phone, and some packing equipment for selling drugs.

Chinese posters on FB make it very plain that they consider fentanyl and meth as legitimate weapons for the hegemon they intend to become.
They try to legitimize the trade saying that "we" did it to "them" with opium.
Their memory does not serve too well when they are reminded who saved them from Japan a little later.
