The middle suspect and the shop owner have the same last name, Xu. Wonder if any distant relation.

You are correct, in standard Mandarin, China's national language, it's pronounced close to "shoo." To be even more precise, add a German umlaut over the ö, since it's more of a ö sound. But now we are getting into the weeds.

But in dialects, and China has hundreds, it could be pronounced in all sorts of ways. Maybe SternAAlbifrons is used to hearing a dialect where it's pronounced "zoo."

It took 3 guys to rob a small, shitty minimart? And then with 3 guys it was not successful? Apparently they did not use the gun. How much money could have been there (unless there were other business matters involved)? Then if successful they would have to split the proceeds 3-ways. Maybe been in KOW too long but my cynicism flag is up on this one. Bu then again it was Chinese.

...but we shouldn’t discriminate against them just because they’re chinese*. I’m sure they’re wonderful, really.

I think Chinese on Chinese violent crime is just wonderful and highly entertaining. As long as no Khmers or Honkies get hit by crossfire, so what?
