Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Cambodia’s 3rd community outbreak in Phnom Penh sees 32 COVID-19 positive cases in 10 hours

In a matter of just 10 hours, Cambodia reported the detection of up to 32 COVID-19 positive cases in the capital, largely confined to Koh Pich and another condominium in the city.

Prime Minister HE made this announcement this morning as rumours were abound since last night of a new community outbreak.

It was learned that the source of this outbreak could be traced back to four quarantined escapees from Sokha hotel last few days and who had spent time in several condominiums in the capital.

Two security guards at the hotel were believed to have been identified and detained for investigation for accepting bribes to allow the four to escape.

The official narrative. Doesn't sound too credible.

These four people must have tested negative 48 hours before their flight, they must have tested negative on arrival @ Pochentong, but they still spread the virus in the KoW in several condo's because they left quarantine early.
Yeah... Sure... Glad it fits the official narrative about all the cases coming in from abroad and the absence of local spreading.

I heard they allow people to mingle in Sokha so if anyone carrying the virus has fake pre-travel tests they get to the hotel before the Airport test is returned. The hotel would make a nice breeding ground.

All these imported cases we hear of have ALL left the airport, got onto a bus with others and gone to a hotel, had a face to face with check-in staff and then, if the rumours of Sokha are true, went about the hotel enjoying themselves.

Only when their airport tests are back and declared positive can they then be taken from the hotel and put into hospital isolation. It's a weak point in the system and if people are getting fake pre-travel tests it can be exposed.

I believe guards in Cambodia would take money to let people out

This should probably get lumped in with a CVOID update thread.
But yeah, magically 4 escapees. Was there an notice about them escaping that I missed?
