February 20, 2021, Covid Community Outbreak (Koh Pich and Beyond)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I think this thread needs a name change to "February 20th outbreak" or something similar. It's way beyond Koh Pich now, this is a big thing at the moment and news items of the latest numbers are in other threads.

Just a thought.

How do they know the escapees spread the virus instead of contracting the virus in Phnom Penh? After all the escapees tested negative 72 hours pre-flight and upon arrival @ Pochentong.
I'm sure the escapers and their wider community are grateful to you for your observations, they need all the support they can get atm!

From my PoV, two things attracted my interest.
In most countries, the employer as well as the security guard would be held accountable, for the obvious reason that if only the guards are prosecuted, the whole thing is much more likely to recur. When the hotel is responsible, they will do their utmost to police their security staff.

And if I were a gambling man, I wouldn't give long odds on the chances of a sizeable group of people of a certain nationality going to numerous clubs, restaurants etc and not one of them going to a casino, especially when there was a very nice one in the near vicinity. That sure was a lucky break.

My observations were not posted to support any escapers. In fact, if I were part of the competent authorities, I would charge them all, judge them, jail them, expedite them and start an international dispute with China over the behavior of their citizens in Cambodia. I know you didn't ask, but I thought maybe it would clear things up.

I am still waiting for someone to explain to me how the authorities can know the spreading started with these (two out four) escapees and they were not infected by others already present in Cambodia.

If you tested positive for Covid, and so did I within a one or two days time, and we spent time together over the last week(s), would there be any way to find out where it all started? Whether I got it from you, or you got it from me?

Look at these people waiting to get tested at the Ministry of Health. No social distancing. All potentially picking up the virus while they wait, but will test negative.

She attended the wedding on the 17th, but was tested on 21st due to the outbreak in Phnom Penh. In the best case scenario, this means that the authorities are doing a very wide check on previous contacts. Hopefully the wedding party will test negative. Stay tuned.
