As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Cambodia News, (Kandal): Police in Kandal Steung district, Kandal province, arrested a man in connection with wearing the uniform of a national police officer, in order to cross a police checkpoint after curfew on the night of April 14, 2021.

This man, Reth Panha, 26 years old, unspecified occupation, resides in Kork Trop commune, Kandal Steung district, Kandal province. Police confiscated his black Suzuki Viva motorcycle, made in 2006, with license plate number 1C-2124, and a national police uniform.

In addition to illegally wearing the uniform of the National Police, the man was also charged with using drugs after he tested positive for use of methamphetamine.
I think 'Fake Cop' is his occupation. Probably been extracting fines from people for years.

It is funny the lengths people will go to just to get across a road block.

If he's not a policeman maybe they can also charge him for the Import Tax and VAT for his 'luxury car' with a police plate? Should be around 50k.

I managed to get the medicine my partner desperately needed this afternoon, but was held at the road block on my return (it doesn't matter if it was an emergency) I was told if I come out of my area I will be arrested.

April 16, 2021
HE warns ambulances and army vehicles to cease smuggling people across lockdown areas and inter-provinces.

In an audio message this afternoon, Prime Minister HE, who apparently learnt of people being smuggled across districts and provinces in defiance of lock down rules and a ban on inter-provincial travel, has warned that these acts constitute human smuggling and the full weight of the law will fall on the violators.

He warned authorities not to allow ambulances, armed forces vehicles or any other vehicles with priority travel to smuggle people, including by trucks.

The movement of people from one province to another is forbidden with the enforcement of the ban on inter-state travel.

The Prime Minister said that in the past, some people sneaked out from Phnom Penh to Prey Veng and Kratie provinces and were found to be COVID-19 positive in those provinces.

Therefore, this case must be tightened and eliminated.

“I have received information that people were being smuggled by using the image of an ambulance, army vehicles and other vehicles which are authorised to carry out inter-province travel. Stop these activities or face the consequences,” he warned.
