I had an invite from one of the members here (the duck specialist) nice guy, to go eat fish and chips at the Azure bar and grill. Wonderful time with good food.

I hate that dish. All the ingredients seem ok and I've seen people spending a while preparing it but it's just not very tasty to me. There's some green paste in it that I don't like. I don't know what the hell to do with all those leaves they give you with many dishes here. Most of them taste like dandelions or some other bitter weed. Usually half it seems cold anyway.
Me too, i just can't see any attraction to it. But my khmer mates get quite exciting when it is rolled out at a wedding/funeral/random event. Its too sloppy and I invariably make a mess of my shirt when reluctantly eating it.

Rice and pork/chicken, banh chav (the pork & bean sprouts crepe thingy) noodle soup and porridge are my go-to's when i need to eat a khmer breakfast. Wouldn't say I love any of them but can easily eat them

MY prefered breakfast-place in PP and from plenty of Khmer also, is the corner from 136 and 13, in front of the minimart, they start cooking very early, 4.30 i think already and serves from 5 or 5.30, but closes also early, something as 17.00 !! Full of khmers but only few barangs !! The language is sometimes a problem, they usually hardly speak english !! And exactly that is everywhere the problem, if an englishman says, spanish cuisines is boring, its because you dont speak the local language, i live half the time in spain and do speak fluent spanish (better then english), if you are a meat-lover its the best you can find in europe, but if you try to order in english, you re fucked, the english speaking restaurants in spâin are the worst. If you drive on some nacional road at mid-day and you se some trucks parked, stop there and ask anything, you will love it, and for 10 euros, included a bottle of wine !! But as most europeans now, the ones who do speak english home are usulally not very nown for their language-skills !!

It's good because it's cheap, nothing special about it but your right when in a foreign country best place to try the local food is where you see lots of locals eating and you'll find the price is good to

Ban chow is amazing if done right. Pancake is crispy on the edges and chewy in the middle. With an assortment of various leaves, including extremely bitter and mildly poisonous young cashew, just fantastic.
I’ve never seen, or had it for breakfast though.
I just asked my boss(Cambodian) and he said “no, it’s not a breakfast food”.
up to you...

@Bongmab69 - who are these people saying they don't like Spanish food? I don't think anyone with half an interest in food says Spanish food is boring.

@atst - the place on 136/13 is not exactly cheap (for local prices), $2.50 for a beef noodle soup and $1.25 for pork rice certainly not the cheapest you'll find around town. It is very good though. Has been my go-to noodle/pork rice place for years

Also, they have a menu in English if you need, just have to ask.

Been to there a few times no complaints but it's been a few years since I've been ,it's always packed with customers so that's a good indicator.

When you are in a rush an iced coffee and a nom pao does the job rightly! Only $1.

My favourite bai sach chrouk was at a local place on corner st 200 / 51.

I've not been there in a few years though, I don't live or work nearby there any more.

Now that I can buy decent bacon, I don't usually go out for breakfast, just coconuts to help with the hangover!

Where I work near Central Market there are lots of little alleyways and backstreet places and stalls. I buy coffee and cigarettes and gum but only eat in close-by places if I'm stuck for time. The Bai Saik Chrook is something I eat fairly regularly but I usually only eat the meat and pickles, and not much rice. The noodle soups are a bit more nourishing but depending on what you want can consist of some gruesome looking guts or just slices of pork/ beef and those meat balls. The Num Pao places nearby only seem to be open early in the morning or late afternoon, they are okay if I'm starving but I'm not crazy about them. Num Pang with "Pate" is not something I care for, with roast pork they can be good good unless there's too much skin/ gristle. There are some little cafes that specialize in duck, for example, and you can get a decent feed without many bones for 10,000 Riel. I used to go to places that had the pork-mince stuffed tomatoes and pork with pineapple, sour cabbage and seafood etc and chicken knuckle with ginger, but not in a while, they can be good and usually don't cost much but can be very disappointing too. It seems to be a social thing eating together for breakfast here but I sometimes wonder why people put up with bones and crap like that.

“I sometimes wonder why people put up with bones and crap like that”
I have asked about that many times, the reply is “they add flavor”. That would be true if the whole dish wasn’t drowned in Knorr chicken powder.
Spoiler:
also ban chow is Vietnamese
