Harry's Bar on Riverside specials

Post by Clutch Cargo »

You know the place I'm talking about.. aka ex Cadillac..

So I popped in the other day for their 'Crazy Friday' $6 meal specials..there are about 5 menu items from memory:

Cheeseburger
Chicken cordon bleu
Chicken Caesar salad
Steak & Onion/Chicken pie
Fish and chips (not sure about this one)
all with sides of salad/fries/mash

Anyway, 3 more items have now been added:

Cottage pie
Gamon steak
Chili con carne

So that's great to have the added choice :thumb:

But not only that, I was pleasantly surprised come 'check bill' time to find I got an additional 10% discount for VIP regular customer for food and drink! This applies any night of the week. Sign of the times I guess.

So I thought I'd give a heads up about that coz this is great value..

As an aside, I noticed too another new promotion...breakfast, 2 eggs (any style incl poached), bacon, toast and jam for $2 between 9-11am. I can vouch this is good..decent serving of bacon and thick toast...can't beat that imo.

I have had the steak pie and that was very nice, again that was on the Friday special board.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Where were you last night Clutch? You missed out on the inaugural cheese and wine soiree. I told you to be around!

We had a Kaiken Malbec from Argentine and a very nice Spanish tempranillo, both 14%.

Don't think so. Steak is a bit expensive when you're pitching at the >$10 mark.

The Cheese and Wine thingy was just a few of us regulars with some nice wine I found. Barry (the owner) provided the cheese. Everyone else got a free ride.

I am trying to work out how to do it on a monthly basis with a price for each so all can join in. I am just wondering how many might turn up. 10+ would be enough with the left over cheese being sold off under the normal cheese platter menu item.

I am thinking of 2 reds and a white, plus 7 different cheeses, at about $2.5 per item including biscuits/bread/fruit or chutneys and pickled onions. You can have as little or as much as you like. Wine at maybe $4 a go. The wine yesterday, the Kaiken, is sold in Oskar at $6 a glass or $36 a bottle, so $4 is good value.

It's not really designed to be a big money spinner, just something nice to do occasionally and might get a few people more familiar with the bar (that's my selling point with the owner!)

It is not intended to be a CEO get together and will not be promoted as such.

Any interest out there? Thoughts?

Sure, but if you are a bloke and you turn up with a handbag, we might take the piss.
