the coup is having far reaching effects to the economy of the country yet
the locals fight on;

Myanmar Protesters Answer Military’s Bullets With an Economic Shutdown
From hospitals, railways and dockyards to schools, shops and trading houses, the country is at a standstill. Strikers hope their actions will force the army to return power after its coup on Feb. 1.
Bank tellers’ windows are gathering dust. Cargo at the port sits uncollected. And in grand government ministries in Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar, stacks of documents are curling in the humidity. There are few people to process all the paperwork.

Since the military seized power in a coup last month, an entire nation has come to a standstill. From hospitals, railways and dockyards to schools, shops and trading houses, much of society has stopped showing up for work in an attempt to stymie the military regime and force it to return authority to a civilian government.

While demonstrators continue to brave bullets — at least 220 people have been killed since the Feb. 1 coup, according to a local group that monitors political imprisonments and deaths — the quiet persistence of this mass civil disobedience movement has grown into a potent weapon against the military. For all the planning that went into the putsch, the generals seem to have been utterly unprepared for the breadth and depth of resistance against them.

Another Bloody Day in Myanmar as Death Toll Reaches 254

By THE IRRAWADDY 22 March 2021
Myanmar’s protest-related death toll since the military’s Feb. 1 coup reached 254 on Monday evening after four more people, including a 13-year-old child, were shot dead in the country’s second biggest city, Mandalay.

Beginning early Monday, the military regime’s security forces opened fire in Aung Pin Lae, Aung Tharyar and Mya Yi Nandar wards in Chanmyathazi Township in Mandalay during a series of raids.

In the gunfire Monday afternoon, three more adults and a 13-year-old boy were killed and more than 40 people were injured, according to charity groups assisting the wounded.

Security forces raided the residential quarters to remove roadblocks erected by local residents and used live rounds, rubber bullets and stun grenades in cracking down against those opposing their raids.

A resident of Mya Yi Nandar Housing told The Irrawaddy that security forces set the roadblocks on fire and destroyed several vehicles belonging to local residents during their raid on the neighborhood.

Soldier kills 7-year-old girl as she sits in her father’s lap during raid on Mandalay home
Khin Myo Chit was among at least three people killed by the regime’s forces in the neighbourhood of Aung Pin Le on Tuesday

A 7-year-old girl was among three people killed in a military raid on a neighbourhood in Mandalay’s Chanmyathazi township on Tuesday afternoon, relatives and locals told Myanmar Now.

Khin Myo Chit was shot in the abdomen by a soldier while she sat in her father’s lap inside her home in Aung Pin Le ward, said her elder sister, Aye Chan San.

The coup regime’s forces arrived in the area with motorbikes and other vehicles around 4pm, she said. Soldiers and police then kicked in the door of her family’s house and came inside, she added.
“They asked if everyone in the house was there. My father responded that that was everyone. Khin Myo Chit was sitting in our father’s lap. One of them said my father was lying and looked around,” she said.

The father repeated that the six family members present in the room were the only people in the house, and a soldier said he was lying and shot at him, Aye Chan San added. But the bullet hit Khin Myo Chit instead, she added.

The soldiers then beat her 19-year-old brother with the butts of their guns until he was bloody and took him away.

“We couldn’t stop them from taking him,” Aye Chan San said. “They said: ‘you want us to shoot at you again?’”

“My father also didn’t know what to do because the kid was in his arms… They told him to give them the kid,” she said, but her father refused.

The latest anti-coup protest planned in Myanmar is for a 'Silence Strike' on Wednesday, March 24. This is one of the artworks.

Meanwhile the strike continues

Military piles pressure on private banks to reopen – or else
Bankers say they are facing threats of nationalisation or forced reopening as the military regime grapples with an industry-wide strike, but a lack of physical cash also looms as a potential crisis point.

The military government and Central Bank of Myanmar are ramping up threats against banks to break a strike that has brought the sector to a standstill, with the country’s largest private bank indicating it is facing threats of nationalisation or a forced reopening.

In recent weeks state media has carried repeated warnings that recalcitrant banks will face “legal action”, while a purported letter from Senior General Min Aung Hlaing’s State Administration Council to the Central Bank that leaked online says private banks that fail to reopen could be forced to transfer some accounts to military and state-run institutions.

......Nearly all of Myanmar’s private banks have been closed since February 8, when rank-and-file workers joined the Civil Disobedience Movement calling for an end to military rule. The closure of close to 2,000 private bank branches has made international payments, withdrawals and interbank transfers all but impossible, leaving customers reliant on internet banking and ATMs.

The shutdown has had a huge impact on the broader economy, affecting everything from international trade to payroll, and left many businesses and individuals short of cash. The closure of bank branches has also been a visible expression of grassroots opposition to the February 1 coup, undermining the legitimacy and authority of the regime.

Nearly 90% of people killed by Myanmar junta forces since the coup have been shot dead and more than a quarter shot in the head - raising suspicions of intentional targeting.

nearly 2 months into the coup
Protest-hit Myanmar junta puts on show of force for Armed Forces Day
Image
Image
NAYPYIDAW (AFP) - Myanmar's military will on Saturday (March 27) put on a major show of strength for the annual Armed Forces Day, as it struggles to quell widespread protests against its rule weeks after seizing power.

The country has been in turmoil since the generals ousted and detained civilian ruler Aung San Suu Kyi on Feb 1, triggering a major uprising demanding a return to democracy.

Anti-coup activists have called for a fresh round of protests on Saturday, when the military will hold a parade of personnel and firepower in the capital Naypyidaw.

Previous processions have seen troops and armour, including tanks, jets and missiles, file past army chief - and now junta head - General Min Aung Hlaing.

Fears have been swirling that the day, which commemorates the start of the Burmese army's resistance to Japanese occupation in World War II, could become a flashpoint for unrest.

lets see what takes place today aorund the country

Myanmar activists have called for major anti-coup protests this weekend as the junta marks Armed Forces Day, after a firebomb attack on deposed civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi's party headquarters.

The country has been in turmoil since the military ousted the Nobel laureate in a lightning putsch on February 1, triggering an uprising demanding a return to democracy.

Nearly 3,000 people have been arrested since the coup, according to a local monitoring group, but the junta earlier this week released more than 600 from Yangon's Insein prison.

Myanmar security forces killed 114 people, including some children, in a brutal crackdown on pro-democracy protesters on Saturday, the bloodiest day of violence since last month's military coup, news reports and witnesses said.

The killings, which took place on Armed Forces Day, drew strong renewed criticism from Western countries. British Ambassador Dan Chugg said the security forces had "disgraced themselves" and the U.S. envoy called the violence horrifying.

Military jets also launched air strikes on a village in territory controlled by an armed group from the Karen ethnic minority and at least two people were killed, a civil society group said.

Earlier, the Karen National Union said it had overrun an army post near the Thai border, killing 10 people - including a lieutenant colonel - and losing one of its own fighters as tensions with the military surged after years of relative peace.

Yes, they threaten to shoot and say they will protect... What crooked killer bums, descended from the most shameless dickheads and the meanest cunt mothers ever spawned anywhere in Asia... (But isn't this all England's fault? Historically speaking?)

The military of Myanmar must be desperate beyond all reasonable comprehension. The curious thing that I don't get -- is why the ordinary soldiers are so keen to go out and shoot up the ordinary citizens on behalf of the leaders. Obviously, the military must be the most entrenched and largest employment hierarchy in the entire country, offering the biggest corruption-pay-off. Myanmar ranks well-down on the international global corruption index. This proves that every little soldier must hope he has a chance to become a big dick, too. Because nothing makes sense. Why should the soldiers kill their own citizens like this? It cannot be explained, except by the fact that the military is so big and entrenched... How awful...

This report on BBC shows the beginnings of barricade street resistance, something like the French Revolution... But with no weapons or resources, the chance of a civil war erupting seem small. No civil war could lead to a good outcome... But who knows..? As Mr. Richard suggests, bombing out the leadership might be a way to dig a hole for the military -- and make the ordinary foot soldiers abandon their servitude to take the side of the real people... But with churlish Russia and hypocrite China, I don't see much hope for any chance that any outside power could "intervene" militarily. The Indians could send forces over the border, but that is about as likely as Buddha coming back to life, or as unlikely as the Americans targeting the top dog's palace with an eleven-ton GBU/43B MOAB... But I think the world would not complain if they dropped one on these guys...
