Drug Addict's Wife Runs Away, So He Burns the House Down

Cambodia News, (Kampong Speu): On January 22, 2021, at 9:10 in the morning in Phchek Chrum village, Pich Mony commune, Kong Pisey district, Kampong Speu province, there was a case where a man got angry with his wife because she ran away, so he decided to burn down their house.

The man who set his own house on fire was identified as Heng Pov, a 33-year-old man. The reason why the man set fire to the house was because his wife ran away and that he is a drug addict. (Which also explains why the wife ran away.)

Currently, the above suspect has no wife and no home, and he has been detained by the authorities and sent to the specialized unit for further action in accordance with legal procedures.

There should be some studies done on why Khmer guys burn down their houses when they get pissed off and frustrated.

It might be seen as a 'better' response to anger, rather than beating someone up or comitting suicide, but often, as in this case, it's a sort of auto-destruction by procuration.
This guy has just destroyed everything he owns (probably not much). For sure, it will not bring his wife back.

I'm confounded and saddened to read these repeated stories about guys burning down the house.

There seem to be more and more of them. It is dismaying, like what the fuck are you going to achieve except destitution?

If I can't have you, I don't want nobody baby. And I'll destroy everything we had together. It's on the emotional level of a child but unfortunately many people don't ever really grow up. It's fucking tragic.

Without detracting from the point re some khmer's emotional maturity and anger management et al, it seems that many of these house burnings and revenge killings are often done in a fit of rage where drugs and drunkenness are involved.

Re suicides however, I'm not sure the same degree applies..
