Is a snooker competition considered gambling?

Post by Private Nuts »

Hi guys
I am clueless on the subject, but don't want to get in trouble.
If I played in a pool/snooker competition and had to pay to enter the competition, with the winners collecting the prize money, would that be illegal or legal?. Is there a chance I could be arrested if the police found out, as they may consider it a form of gambling and gambling outside of casinos is to my knowledge illegal.
Thanks

Maybe, but there are threads on here of them busting people for friendly card games and not so friendly cock fighting tournaments. They all have the same thing in common, the government isn't collecting tax money, unlike the casinos who have licences. The one I know I got invited to which has just started has about 16 players. That's alot of fines money for the police if it was cracked down on. Maybe I'm just paranoid, I just feel like if I went I'd be stressed out looking out the front door for the cops the whole time. I'm probably just over analysing, but I thought it best to ask the experts, after all, that's what this forum is for.

Card game is gambling, cock fighting itself is illegal.

Pool games are not, and I have never even heard a whisper of police doing anything (except maybe participating) in pool comps in any bar here
