After more than 40 years of peace, and after making hundreds of millions of dollars from logging, filling in lakes and leasing countless hectares of land under the guise of ‘development’, Kampot authorities are still not able to treat wastewater in this coastal city.
In our latest video, we expose how pipes are spewing wastewater into the Kampot estuary, a popular site for tourists and locals alike. This sewage water comes from the town's main market, restaurants along the estuary, as well the homes of local residents, who have no choice except dumping their waste into the estuary and nearby creeks since city authorities are yet to build a system that manages wastewater.
Needless to say, this is turning the estuary into a black, foul-smelling body of water, especially during the dry season. Not just that, it is also having an impact on the estuary’s marine life. Let’s hope that there is an effective solution put in place soon that takes into consideration the ecology of the Kampot estuary and people’s health.

Re: Kampot Has a Problem with Sewage and Waste Water
Kampot's Sewage and Waste Water I don't think there is any waste water treatment plant in Kampot at the moment. Most water is "treated" in Septic Tanks which at least in the City are emptied pretty regulary by Sewage Trucks. They cost around 60 USD/per Septic Tank. As far as the further treatment is concerned i would imagine it is dumped at some remote location (perhaps). In general Kampot does not have a serious Waste Water / Sewage Problem , at least not one that you can see. In the rainy season you can see the sewage from the city pipes unloading their shit into the river at the riverside. But here, too i saw City workers cleaning up the pipes just yesterday.
Sihanoukville had a Wastewater Treatment Plant for the past 20 odd years but most of the City was never connected ! Same with Pattaya / Thailand where up until a few years ago you could see the Shit floating off the coast where it was pumped to by huge pipes (Naklua Beach).
Kampot has much more severe problems than the Waste Water/Sewage Issue which obviously become a bigger issue with all the building going on in and around town. So, the clock is ticking.
The biggest issue at the moment is Plastic Waste everywhere. On the road, neighbors land, rivers and the sea. There are frequent clean-ups organized involving whole schools but with limited effect. The same kids simply throw their plastic cups into the ditch on their way home. While there is Garbage Collection only those that are willing to pay for it will get the service. A bit off the borders of the City the Trash is mounting daily, often simply burned off by construction workers or residents making the air contaminated and unbreathable at times.
The other one is "deforestation". But that is the price for progress everywhere , NO ?? This picture shows the deforested area of the new TESLA Plant near Berlin, Germany.
So are western countries any better ? Unless there are strict regulations and checks and balances in place this will not change in the near future.

There's an ADB waste water treatment plant under construction in Kampong Samrong right now. It's been planned for years, as is the way of abd projects. It'll connect town waste and pump it out north east, and then exit to the prek.

Well to be fair that doesn't look much like a natural forest, it's probably just a pine plantation.

Re: Kampot Has a Problem with Sewage and Waste Water
To build a WWT plant is one thing..to run it another. Italy has spent billions on WWT plants and still 40% goes untreated in rivers and finally into the sea (Sicily beeing the worst area where 56% goes untreated). Inefficient government and lack of funds is the major cause of this problem and that is where i see parallels to Cambodia. The WWT plants will be built and then the money to run it (if available) will disappear resulting in a non functioning WWT plant and a situation as before the building.
Energy consumption is massive in a WWT plant, where will that be coming from and who is going to foot that bill?
work is for people who cant find truffles

Once the Chinese come in all will be solved,

Most of the old town (riverside up to durian, up to the link road and over to the new bridge road) doesn’t have any cesspits. All waste goes into the drains.
There’s no requirement to fit any either.

The trees are too regimented in their layout to be a Forrest. They all look about 10 years old.John Bingham wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 8:46 pmWell to be fair that doesn't look much like a natural forest, it's probably just a pine plantation.

From Wiki
Extending north from the 1-square-kilometre (0.4 sq mi) "GVZ Freienbrink" logistics centre,[53][54][55] the area is an undeveloped 3-square-kilometre (1.2 sq mi) greenfield land site designated industrial zone.[56] It was planned as a location for a BMW car factory around the year 2000, but BMW chose Saxony instead.[57] Much larger pine plantations in a landscape-scale conservation[58] surrounds Freienbrink. A state-owned man-made forest of low-quality monoculture harvest-ready planted pine[59][60] trees occupies the site, and authorities expect Tesla to mitigate felling by planting new trees of more diverse variety.[61][62][63] Old ordnance complicates site clearing,[64][65] and seven bombs (85 kg total) were disposed in a controlled explosion on January 26.[66]

Mother Nature was wrong, again !
If Kampot had a REAL and SERIOUS Sewage and WASTE WATER PROBLEM the City wouldn't give a fiddlers fart in cleaning up the Pipes around the city because it costs money.
Here is the proof what Kampot is acutally doing:
The Fires , too have stopped again for a day or two or might be hidden from the view from Kampot.

I don't get your point, what has a septic pumping truck got to do with anything?
