NKOTB & his Khmer Missus adventures in Texas

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

NKOTB & his Khmer Missus adventures in Texas

Post by newkidontheblock »

Missus is adjusting to life the US. When she goes back after things return to normal, I told her to make a list and bring those things back.

Somethings are easily available in Cambodia and can’t be found (or difficult to find) in the US. Even the all might Amazon doesn’t have them.

Feel free to add to the list.

Cool Mini pads.

Clothes that aren’t children clothes.
Footwear that isn’t for babies or small children
Haven’t had to search for bras and panties but I suspect the same issues.

Nivea pearl body scrub. Apparently only made in Thailand.

Fingerling root (actually just found it in the Vietnamese supermarket today)

Fresh duck eggs (not the preserved salted)

Prahok

Nhum Pah Jop noodles

No ducks in the US? You can't be serious about trying to bring fresh eggs from Cambodia to the US

Surely with the large Cambodian communities in the States you'll be able to find the majority of foodstuffs she is used to, I recently remember reading an article or post which mentioned the availability of Prahok in the States.

Reference the rest of the stuff, keep looking, your wife has only been there a few weeks now hasn't she? She needs to time to adapt.

Don't worry too much at this stage - I think she's just a bit homesick.

I suspect whitening cream is less popular there but maybe still available. I recall a furore some years ago when a company in Thailand started selling whitening cream for ladies private bits. Am almost that isnt available stateside.

For duck eggs you will have to find a farmer with ducks- look for message boards and such for crunchy homesteading types.

Clothes can be hard, but a life hack for the small- the kids size 12/14 or 14/16 at the Gap often has similar styles as adult clothes in basics but will be much cheaper! I have several denim and khaki skirts and some shorts that are Gap Kids. Same with Old Navy (quality is poor though). Personally I find nothing insulting in the fact I can save a few bucks 😂

Prahok should be available, same from duck eggs. I guess it depends if you live far from a major urban centre.
