NKOTB & his Khmer Missus adventures in Texas

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Just a week more, and the framing is done. Already the house is wrapped, plumbing being installed, and outside siding started.

Next week is the pre-sheet rock inspection.

Re: Siding choice
@nkotb Is that primed LP SmartSide I see there? A great choice if it is, looks like it. Nice work, its a jumbo Desert Rambler, short eaves out in the desert is all you need.

Seems you got a lot of new neighbors since the slab was built.
Keep the photos coming.

New kid, what's the appr. price to build a house like that in Texas? Just curious.

Median (most common) price for a house in the Houston area is 350K. There is currently no price difference between new construction and buying a pre-owned house.

@newkidontheblock , Do you know if your siding is LP?
And, I thought you were in San Antonio... and with Houston precip. it seems like your eaves are short but i don't really know that climate - I like the lines of the house and with trim on the lap siding it s going to look great.

No idea. It’s whatever the builder uses. Does this help?

Climate here is definitely not desert dry. It’s hot and humid with a risk of hurricanes. There’s summer most of the year. Then a brief winter for a few months. Like Cambodia, but much worse (according to my better half).

I’ve never had a new construction house before. Every house has been 20-50 years old. New experience for me. Got to pick from several floor plan variations, tiles, woods, fixtures, paint, etc.

Small room in Cambodia (aka building an entire bottom house then putting the old house on top) does not count.

What's the room with the little skate ramp like roof over it? I've never really seen a home like that before, must lead to an indoor mud wrestling pit right?
