The Serpent
looks interesting;
the whole series
[No torrent links, thanks.]
Con man, escape artist, thief, master of disguise and psychopath, Charles Sobhraj was the chief suspect in the sensational unsolved murders of up to 20 young Western travellers across India, Thailand and Nepal through 1975 and 1976. Having slipped repeatedly from the grasp of authorities worldwide, by 1976 Sobhraj was Interpol's most wanted man and had arrest warrants on three different continents.When Herman Knippenberg, a junior diplomat at the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok, unwittingly walks into Sobhraj's intricate web of crime, he sets off an extraordinary chain of events that will see these two diametrically opposed men engaged in a chase across the porous borders of the Asian Hippie Trail in its twilight years.The Serpent is based on the phenomenal true story of how one of the most elusive criminals of the 20th century was caught and brought to trial.

Yeah, this was really good, they got the 70s Asia vibe down nicely, good performances, story. Loved it.

Re: The Serpent
I've been watching it, great series but the jumps are confusing. I read a couple of books about him years ago, and then all the stuff about his release etc. An intriguing and malevolent character.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Re: The Serpent
I was on the overland trail at that time. I spent a short spell in prison in Peshawar (afghan hash) and then made my way to Goa. I then got very ill and spent a month in hospital in Panjim, after that I went to Bombay to get repatriated. The British embassy showed me a load of pictures of people and asked if I had seen any of them, I hadn't. Years later somebody gave me the book "serpentine" and I realised what that was about. There was also a bloke who went round the hotels in Kabul asking the same thing, but lots of people went missing in those days anyway.
There is a life sized model of Charles sitting at his favourite table reading the newspaper in a restaurant called "Le Coquero" just outside Panjim. In the early 2000s in Goa I used to wear a flat cap like Charles and sometimes people would smile at me and say "Charles" ? he is still remembered A Coincidence as my nickname to some people is Charlie.
