Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): A young man who was burnt in the middle of the night, in Phnom Penh on December 22, while protecting his sister during a house fire, has passed away in the early hours of December 25, 2020 at Calmette Hospital.

According to the source from the victim's family, tomorrow at 3 pm on Saturday, December 26, 2020, the body will be prepared for the funeral rites at Wat Sangvor in Sangvor village, Kampong Luong commune, Ponhea Leu district, Kandal province and will be cremated at 7 pm. The victim, 27-year-old Lahn Chhunly, was born in Kampong Luong commune, Ponhea Leu district, Kandal province.


Please be reminded that the above fire occurred at 10:10 pm on December 22, 2020 along Street 169, Group 21, Village 4, Sangkat Veal Vong, Khan 7 Makara, Phnom Penh.
Sources said that before the above incident, they heard the sound of a gas canister exploding, causing the fire to spread to the second floor of the house immediately, leaving people in the house trapped on both the first and second floors. After receiving the information, the local authorities arrived and called the fire truck to come down and intervene.


The source added that in this incident, the victim called urgently for help, because the house was locked from the inside and then it took 20 minutes to cut the door open with wire-cutters.

The medical team of Calmette Hospital tried to save the young hero, but unfortunately he died due to severe burns all over his body.
However, the man's sister and three other women staying on the first floor of the house survived with minor injuries.
According to the authorities, the cause of the fire was a gas tank explosion.
