Trump: It’s a disgrace we’re sending $85 million to Cambodia and all Americans get is a lousy $600

Pretty much every credible study has shown that foreign aid more than pays for itself. But he probably doesn’t know that.
Also $85M is such a pathetically tiny drop in the US budget that one has to commend him for being able to make it sound like he thinks it’s a lot of money.

Actually $600 times say 200 million Americans comes to rather more then $85 million. Dont worry you can be sure that the Cambodian people will not see any part of the $85 million

"Make sure you tell them how much you want the $600 increased to President Trump"
"How much do I want it increased by again? Remind me?"
"$2000 per person. Got it?"
"Sure. Got it. $2000."
"Oh but tell them if they are a couple they get even more."
"Oh wow. How much more?"
"Tell them if they are a couple they get $4000 President Trump."
"Oh really? Wow. That's a lot more. That sounds like almost double."
"Yep. It'll make you sound great Mr. Trump."
"....to increase it to $2000 each OR $4000 for a couple..."

The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never allow the dumb ones to lead the pack.

He definitely cares about the people. Defo. 100%. What a guy.

Additionally, the Donald J. Trump Foundation, which has come under previous scrutiny for self-dealing and advancing the interests of its namesake rather than those of charity, apparently used the Eric Trump Foundation to funnel $100,000 in donations into revenue for the Trump Organization.
And while donors to the Eric Trump Foundation were told their money was going to help sick kids, more than $500,000 was re-donated to other charities, many of which were connected to Trump family members or interests, including at least four groups that subsequently paid to hold golf tournaments at Trump courses.

Loads of ways. Even at the most simple level, if you help get another country functioning and productive then you’ve got someone to buy what you’re selling as well as sell you stuff you want. On top of that, again generally speaking, foreign aid often has strings attached in terms of negotiating favourable trade terms etc.Phnom Poon wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 7:51 pmin what ways?nerdlinger wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 6:15 pm Pretty much every credible study has shown that foreign aid more than pays for itself.

And yeah definitely applicable to Cambodia, especially when looked at in the context of the PRC’s designs on the country.
It’s why isolationist talk (like the “fund the NHS” mantra that lead to Brexit) is so infuriating to me, because even if you don’t consider it the responsibility of those with wealth to help those without, it’s still in your interests to help. A lot of people don’t seem to understand that it’s not a zero-sum game. Most win-win scenarios involve co-operation not isolationism.
