Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Cambodia News, (Sihanoukville): On the occasion of checking the infrastructure in the city and the beach area, His Excellency Kouch Chamreon, the governor of Sihanoukville, has ordered the installation of signs to be placed in the beach and picnic areas, saying ′′ Don't throw away trash ′' or "No littering".

He said that his officials will now fine anyone found throwing away rubbish, with penalties ranging from 20 thousand riels to four hundred thousand riels.

400, 000 riel !!
only?

Make them pick up rubbish from the beach themselves, in full view, for a day or two.
That'll stop the Khmers anyway - they would never in a million years want be seen doing that.

Or publicly flog them on the beach.
(that'll be a big hit with both the Ch and Kh tourists, for sure)

When you talk about making a law it would always be a good idea to discuss whether or not it is a practicle one.
Will it achieve the required result?
How will it be enforced?
what will be the cost to enforce the law?
Who will be the target of the law?

Somebody should quote Darrel Kerrigan and "Tell them they are dreaming"

Why, litterers, of course! I'm sure no other demographic will be singled out.

If they do enforce it, they could become rich beyond their wildest dreams :)

I doubt many Cambodians know what a bin is actually for, it is by far the filthiest litter strewn country I have ever been to
