American CHRISTOPHER BOWMAN Admits Smashing Riverside ATM

Breaking news from Cambodia can be found here. CEO often finds Khmer news and translates it into English for our readers if it is interesting to expats, locals, Cambodians living abroad and anyone who wants to stay informed of the latest local and international news stories about Cambodia and our neighbors in South East Asia. There are many sources for Khmer news articles and they can all be found here in one place. Most of the media comes out of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville, but we cover national Cambodian news from all provinces.

A few years back, I was waiting outside the market in Sihanoukville during the afternoon. A drunk Russian guy started punching the ABA ATM. He was still in the ATM when an unmarked BMW full of plain-clothed Khmer cops came from the Eckareach direction. They all got out except the driver, got the guy, threw him in the car and sped off.

I have certainly been guilty of punching the occasional ATM in my younger days

Not to break them, usually just from frustration when they swallowed my cards at bad times.

I don't do it here. They care far more than in western Europe about the automated pieces of junk

He should be grateful he had his temper tantrum here, and not in Singapore. They have a very special way of dealing with vandalism which, apparently, leads to a very low recidivism rate for such crimes.
