Re: 'We will be the enemy': China issues stunning threat to Australia
1/ Australia doe not send 62% of it's iron ore to China
It sends 80%.
China imports 62% of it's iron ore from Australia.
there is a difference
(Taiwan 2% )
So Yes, as everybody has been saying for many years, #101, Aust needs to diversify it's trade.
At least, they are finally starting to translate that into action
- even if it needed a slap in the face with a wet fish to get them off their ass.
2/ Yes. Australia closed it's steel industry in the 80's and 90's. Because the (mostly-) US push to globalism made manufacturing untenable.
It was "Are you in the game or not?" kinda strong arm "friendship" from their allie.
Those americans ranting about China trade imbalance and crying Victim Victim need to own the fact they strong-armed the free world into Globalisation.
(nb, ^^ not an anti-US rant. Just calling out some of their newly minted nationalist/nativist heroes for stinking hypocrisy.
They were exactly the same bunch that wanted USA to be the No1 muscular superpower of the world just a few years ago.)
3/ Before we get to "push comes to shove" - Australia is making it very clear it does not want to to be forced into any box.
It is crucial to realise this before anybody wants to talk of war - or of binary situations generally.
But yes, if it does come to the crunch, i agree, they would almost certainly stay in the western camp.
(ps, ANSUS is toilet paper - is the real view of Au Defence and Intell.
but they talk it up for appearances anyway)
nb, imo only
Black hat V. white hats
god given country V. those slanty eyed devils - is dumb as fuck and dangerous.
Thankfully, so think almost all Australia's leaders and political parties and sensible people.
Yesterday.
"Our actions are wrongly seen and interpreted by some only through the lens of the strategic competition between China and the United States," Mr Morrison said.

Re: 'We will be the enemy': China issues stunning threat to Australia
I should add that Au, and SEA generally, regarded Trump as an ignorant dangerous unpredictable lunatic when it came to US policy in SEA.
That has accelerated the move away from binary thinking.
Uh oh.
No no no - this as dumb as fuck.
they said to Pompeo just this year.
Trump not appointing an ambassador for two years to its all-time staunchest military friend and allie, because he was in a ego-huff about nothing, certainly did not help.
Thank God! Au leaders, diplomats, military and population have a much more mature understanding of USA as a friend.
EVERYbody is expecting/hoping for a closer relationship than they have had for decades - under the new usa regime.
especially regarding their in-common strategic aims in SEA.
(imo only ^^ all)

Re: 'We will be the enemy': China issues stunning threat to Australia
Good good
Step it up China - the chasm is widening with your every move.
The Chinese Government has announced it will place tariffs on all Australian wine imports from tomorrow.
The deposits, which effectively work like tariffs, will range from between 107 per cent to more than 200 per cent.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-11-27/ ... s/12886700
Sorry for the few smaller players - but not a single tear for the fat-cat Big Boys of the wine industry.
Everybody has been telling them for years that their bonanza is based on very shaky ground - and they should be looking to diversify.
No doubts they will be subverting Au's national interest by pressuring the government to cave in to Chinese demands.
Stick that up your overpriced bottle of Grange and squeal like a stuck pig , ya fat bastards - you had fair warning.
say most aussies these days.

Yep. ^^^ probably 84 ships in a couple of days when all of the previously ordered coal arrives as contracted.
NB NB to everybody. Only build a biz with china in something they can't replace. !!!
or they will stick your head in a barrel of ****, twist your arm around your neck backwards, and turn turnips up your Khyber Pass.
But if you do have anything they reeeally need, like cheap shiploads of the world's purest iron ore, eg
- maybe start thinking about how you can grab their balls and start twisting.

Aust have made theirs the favoured for quality because they put a lot of work into getting the "fines and pellet" mixes just right for the exact specs of the different steel works.
Brazil is Au biggest competitor for the Chinese market. They also have large high qual deposits.
but pretty sure Brazil would not be able to totally replace australian supplies if Oz ever decided to play hardball.
as it stands now..
".. industry group projects that Brazil will export 310 million tons in 2020, lower than the 340 million tons exported in 2019"
“ Australia iron ore exports amounted to 585.5 mlll tonnes in the first 8 months of 2020"
