No sympathy for thieves but vigilanteism is dangerous, a mob does not know when to stop beating someone who can no longer resist since no one is claims responsibility for its actions.

So what’s the solution for Cambodia, specifically? The cops don’t proactively stop the crooks. Most thieves are usually caught by the crowd. Thieves that are caught are usually given a slap on the wrist and then continue on their merry way to commit more crime. So what do you propose for Khmer people to make them more safe and not have to resort to mob justice?Robins wrote:No sympathy for thieves but vigilanteism is dangerous, a mob does not know when to stop beating someone who can no longer resist since no one is claims responsibility for its actions.
Mob is a last resort. So is appealing directly on Facebook to Iron Man for justice.
Both are done in the Kingdom of Wonder.

Are you sure that is the case?newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 11:01 am Thieves that are caught are usually given a slap on the wrist and then continue on their merry way to commit more crime.
There are a helluva lot of Cambodians languishing in horridly overcrowded jails / pre-trial detention who might take exception to that statement.

And there’s the rub. Connections. Well understood by the locals. Hence, their frustration.

Curbstone justice goes a long way in preventing repeat offenders especially in the same area.
