Officer Loses Foot in Mine Explosion at Preah Vihear Temple

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Cambodia News (Preah Vihear): On November 12, 2020, at 4:30 am, a military officer was seriously injured in a mine explosion while he was on patrol in Damnak 1 area, at the east side of the Preah Vihear temple.

According to a source at the scene, the victim was identified as Lieutenant Noun Thoeun, 46 years old, a military officer at the border no. 795.
They said that just before the incident, the victim went to relieve himself in the forest only 200 meters away from the Preah Vihear temple's ancient stair. Although he did not go very far into the forest, he stepped on the mine, causing the explosion, and his left foot was blown off.

The wounded officer was sent to the 16 Makara hospital in Preah Vihear.

Poor bastard.

200 metres from the World Heritage temple. Hmmm..
Cambodia, presumably, does not use landmines these days. Certainly not here.
I wouldn't put it past the dastardly Thais - but it was probably not from the most recent deadly battles they staged at this sacred site.
Circa 1979-91 more probably.
