This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. What, can you translate into english for us dummies please?
Businesses in Cambodia pretend to be the direct source of products/services, when smaller business tycoons decide to jump into the internet provider business, talks to a bigger tycoon veterans, convinces them to give him a small slice, the process gets repeated over and over until the combined amount of slices now look big enough to be considered a full pie, finally it gets branded by itself thus a new Internet Provider is born.

Shit hits the fan when something gets broken badly and the job to fix it gets passed down over and over and over until it reaches the main source.

This applies to restaurants too.. You order beer but they don't have it, no problem, they'll walk over to the neighbor restaurants and buy it for you. It's up to them if they mark up the price even further.

That post had me wondering. I didn't realize till now that OnLine is actually what became of Telstra - the first ISP here and a joint venture with the Australian government. It didn't really pan out so well for everyone... :?
Bigpond started a joint venture with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications
(MPT) in 1997 when it signed a 35 year agreement with the government. The deal gave
it and Cambodian-Canadian operator CamNet exclusive rights to provide internet services
until February 2002.
But less than a year later MPT launched another joint venture, Camintel, in direct
competition with Bigpond. In July 2001 MPT again breached the exclusivity agreement
when it granted a license to MobiTel to run its Telesurf ISP.

Married to a US citizen and living in the US - eligible to apply for citizenship in 3 years - or 18 months living in the US. Otherwise, 5 years. She can leave the US for up to 6 months total per year.

After the citizenship application it is not advised to leave the US until naturalization is obtained.

Supposedly on the green card lists the starting date.

Good luck GMJS-CEO!

About the advice on life in America...
Missus’ older brother has already told her how much she will suffer in the US. Apparently he knows much more about the big world outside living on his house boat on the Tonle Sap.

How dirty it is. Lack of law or rules. Poor sanitation in general. How she will get sick because of unhygienic restaurant conditions. Lack of internet. Poor medical care, Etc. And she will be worked to death on arrival.

I told her she will be smothered with love on arrival.

She will be worked to death meeting the neighbors, cooking yummy food, keeping the home clean, learning more English (she wants to a nurse in the US), getting a driver’s license, seeing the GI doctor for her stomach aches, the Neurologist for her migraines, seeing the OB/Gyn doctor, and deciding on whether to buy or build a house. And deciding on what to replace the 140,000 mile, 10 year old car with. And seeing the big beautiful state, with it’s beaches, mountains, deserts, rolling hills, and cactus. And fishing.

Thanks for all the well wishes.

You should tell her to visit all those doctors in Cambodia. It will be cheaper and she can talk to them in Cambodian language. Doctors in USA are expensive and not familiar with Cambodia stomach issues.

Yeah, that is correct with the 3 years but you can file 90 days before the 3 years date. https://www.uscis.gov/forms/uscis-early ... calculator

2 years down and 1 more to go! The current wait after we file that citizenship form (N-400) is 14-18 months for our office that would cover it https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

When they finally get to process her form in the middle of 2023 she would take the English test and USA Civics test. Pretty sure they are easy.

Oh, hopefully you do not have the hellish time we did getting a driving license. The different DMVs in the same state couldn't agree how to process a license for her, some said she wasn't eligible to drive and another said she was.

That’s great that you are so close to the goal line.
Good luck GMJS-CEO! And hopefully future congrats to your wife soon.

I’m hoping that the DMV will take her Khmer driver’s license and then convert it got a Texas license.
If not, there’s always going to driving school, taking the written, and then the practical. She has to get a driver’s license. Everywhere in the US uses it for ID.

Physicians in Cambodia are so hit or miss. Most don’t explain tests results and or meaning. Often she gets an IV and then bag of pills with orders to take for a few days. A previous Khmer GI doctor was wanting to do a gynecological exam on missus as well as check out her breasts. She’s gone to them, with all sorts of different answers. Hopefully the ones in the US will be more unified and consistent. Plus there’s the Health Savings Account. All tests and visits get paid off the pre-tax account anyways.

Thanks for all the good wishes and suggestions.

Please keep ‘em coming.

Embassy officer was complaining that missus brought a him big book of evidence for him to skim through. After reading about and hearing the horror stories, not sure if it was because Missus was well prepared, the years at ACE building up her skills and confidence, or because the embassy and had already decided to grant the visa before she even stepped in for the interview.

Questions were simple. How did you meet? Have you met the parents in law? Questions and tone akin to meeting stranger at a potluck luncheon, as not a life or death formal embassy interview.

Now we can more forward with our lives.

Next, buying an airplane ticket.

And cleaning the man dump, otherwise known as home, to female standards. An impossible task.
Congratulations! How long did you end up waiting then from when you started the application?

1.5 years. That’s applying for a CR-1 Visa with a US citizen sponsor.

The pharmacy lady that missus goes to WING started in 2018 with her green card husband sponsor is still waiting for that interview.

A K-1 visa application is supposedly faster but will be under more scrutiny and have a higher chance of rejection.

Hope this info helps.

Good luck and I wish you success.
